Entheogenic is pretty damn amazing, not so downtempo but still good stuff.
The universe is an infinite harmony of vibrating beings in an elaborate range of expansion-contraction ratios, frequency modulations, and so forth.

I 2nd kuba. Especially his newer stuff.

I've got a great CD called absolute ambient, but have no idea who put it together. Anyway it's my favourite for a good downtempo journey, if I can find more about it I'll come here first off.

Sir Terrence McKenna: "and what is real: is you, and your friends, and your associations, your highs, your orgasms your hopes your plans your fears... and were told. no. we're unimportant, we're peripherial. get a degree, get a job, get a this, get a that. and then your a player, (but) you dont even want to play that game? (well) you want to re-claim your mind and get it out of the hands of the cultural engineers: who want to turn you into a half-baked moron consuming all this trash thats being manufactured out of the bones of a dying world. ¿where is that at?"

"But now technology throws a curve. and the curve is that we live so long, that we figure out what a scam this is. we figure out that what your supposed to work for isn't worth having, we figure out that our politicians are buffoons, we figure out that professional scientists are reputation building gravitating weasels. we discover that all organizations are corrupted by ambition. we figure. it. out... and as you come to see that you are alienated you realise that culture is not your friend."

I would recommend Shpongle, Shulman, Carbon Based Lifeforms, Androcell. All in the downtempo genre and very good.

-Watts-

"We live together, we act on, and react to, one another; but always and in all circumstances we are by ourselves. The martyrs go hand in hand into the arena; they are crucified alone. Embraced, the lovers desperately try to fuse their insulated ecstasies into a single self-transcendence; in vain. By its very nature every embodied spirit is doomed to suffer and enjoy in solitude. Sensations, feelings, insights, fancies — all these are private and, except through symbols and at second hand, incommunicable. We can pool information about experiences, but never the experiences themselves. From family to nation, every human group is a society of island universes."

This is one of my favorite songs=)
Vangelis - Rachels song (from the movie blade runner, best soundtrack ever!)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5wJyLFnxNk

NASA-Voyager recording Jupiter
I cant remember the name of the record but there are several recodings of planets
taken up by the NASA Voyager. Space is not silent!...it's a symphony=)

Vector Lovers - City lights from a train
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWe5AVK2s_I

I also recommend the soundtrack to the video game "Mass effect".
It has some really nice ambient/dark ambient mixed in with some orchestras and stuff.
It kinda varies trough the soundtrack
