Found this vendor on ebay selling what he claims is trichocerus panachoi. supposedly a cross between GAWLER PERU X DAWSONS PASACANA. Is this cacti active? or could this be a trap?

Good quality Syrian rue (Peganum harmala) for an incredible price!

Interesting. I've only ever seen pachanoi before Wink

You'll have to find this out for yourself. The cactus analysis thread is worth more than a look.

A trap? You think the cops will come crashing through your door for you buying a cactus?

If you're thinking of buying a cactus cutting with the sole intention of preparing it for consumption, firstly I'd say that's a shame. It's much more rewarding to grow the plant for a few years, understand its ways and so forth. Thus would come the added bonus that you would have more material to work with plus you'll know how to propagate a virtually endless (if, perhaps, sporadic) source of that most wonderful molecule.

So your asking if it's a trap makes me suggest you examine your intentions most carefully.

OK, good luck on your journey!

With growing from seed, the genetics get juggled up so some of the seedlings will be more potent than others. Young peruvianus seedlings from Europe were found to be completely devoid of mescaline, so chances are your cacti will take a good few years before they start producing any significant amounts of desired alkaloid(s). Certainly before they get to a size worth harvesting. So it looks like you're in this for the long haul.

Your results will be of great interest to us here at the Nexus - have a search through some of the cactus cultivation topics for inspiration. Also you'll have a good while to get your extraction and analysis skills up to speed if they aren't already. There's a great non-destructive micro-analysis method that you can use to quantify the alkaloid content of your (prospective) seedlings as they grow. Have you seen it yet?

And welcome to the Nexus Thumbs up
