If our bodies make its own DMT, isn't smoking DMT (or drinking it) a form of hormone replacement therapy?

Not a hormone, I'd say it's a neurotransmitter.

Hmmm...

Or could it fit into that category?

Quote:
hormone (from the Greek participle โ€œแฝฯฮผแฟถฮฝโ€) is any member of a class of signaling molecules produced by glands in multicellular organisms that are transported by the circulatory system to target distant organs to regulate physiology and behaviour. Hormones have diverse chemical structures, mainly of 3 classes: eicosanoids, steroids, and amino acid/protein derivatives (amines, peptides, and proteins). The glands that secrete hormones comprise the endocrine signaling system. The term hormone is sometimes extended to include chemicals produced by cells that affect the same cell (autocrine or intracrine signalling) or nearby cells (paracrine signalling). -Wikipedia

I still would not see DMT consumption as hormone replacement, it's really not replacing anything...

"Replacement" is a bit of a misnomer. Augmentation, perhaps. Draw the analogy between DMT and testosterone. People with "low T" get testosterone "replacements," to boost their levels back up to "normal."

Maybe some humans have chronically low DMT due to a, say, calcified pineal gland, possibly (POSSIBLY!).

~OR~

There is no "deficiency," and taking DMT is actually a temporary boost in DMT levels, which may have the same sorts of implications that boosting a hormone would.

The opinion at the heart of this banter is that I think it's a little unnatural.

Isn't hormone augmentation a long-term strategy which is counter-acted by opposite biological processes involved which eventually neutralize and therefore nullify the strategy to a degree and therefore maybe T augmentation is only served to older patients because the thinking is that if you start augmentation at a younger age you will nullify the changes eventually whereas older patients die before any nullification take place.

DMT use is one-time useage and I do not know of anyone using it as a chronic fix. This is the main difference I think with augmentation therapy and DMT/iboga therapy (for example).

I personally think that using hormone supplements for a short time acts as a psyche-delic in the purest sense of the word. It is expanding the horizon of human capacity, and serves as an eye-opener for people who have never experienced what it's like to be flooded with testosteron for example. There's a ted talk that covers it that inspires my thoughts; I can't find the link right now..

She is a chronic deficient and she is put on every possible hormone you can think of. She learned a lot about different human positions. It's very interesting.

It's a bit of a fuzzy area, but in the end I think DMT is much more of a nuerotransmitter than a hormone. The one place where I might consider it a hormone but just borderline is its action as a 5-HT3 agonist in the GI tract (AKA the Ayahuasca purge)

since we are throwing out theories, I have recently been contemplating the possibility that the purpose of endogenous DMT is sexual in nature. I have noticed an overlap between the feelings of an intense orgasm and a low dose of vaped DMT. In the same way oxytocin is released in order for us to feel an emotional bond, DMT may be released in such moments of bliss to induce a sort of psycho-spiritual awakening and the feeling of oneness with the universe all in order to cause us a deeper connection and attachment to our sexual partner. I am not heavily invested in this theory, but would be very interested if there is any data to confirm or deny it.

If anekdotes are worth anything, I feel that DMT and porn has a nice synergy, The nice ladies intent to showcase a pleasurable experience for the viewer becomes pretty much impossible to miss when ur on DMT. Now that's not to say that dmt is sexual but the 2 have a nice synergy. I'd say it's an empathogen at this point but it get's blurry. That vibes very well with what you are saying about oneness. I wouldn't say it's sexual but it's spiritual and bonding. I think it connects you with the universe and sometimes it's picked up somewhere out there.. And the point of tantra is precicely this.

Btw to stay on topic ,, ahum we could try vaping oxytocin it's apparently a hell of a ride. Heck I would.

But in all fairness to the OP, a natural release of DMT due to tantra is much more valuable than any smoked DMT experience in the universe, ever. Theoretically i'd say
