After reading some stuff on Wikipedia and talking to InMo I have a good tip for us. Crystals like to form on rougher surfaces more than smooth. So I'm going to take some light grit sand paper and make round poker-dot like scratches in the container. They only have to be micro scratches so don't go crazy. This should in theory encourage where and shape of new growth.
Happy xtal farming to us all!Thumbs up

I just wanted to comment on this. I recently bought a crappy glass bowl from the dollar store to use in extractions and it's not exactly smooth everywhere. Imperfections and such. The crystals that formed in that bowl were beyond belief Smile So the smooth surface vs. rough surface definitely has something to it. I just found this out by accident, but it makes sense Smile

I was sure that I had read in this thread (or perhaps another) about the shape of the vessel used to grow crystals effecting the size/shape of the crystals, however I am unable to find it at this time? Can someone please point me in the direction? Thanks

If there is no such thread..
Has anyone noticed if using different shaped vessels effects size, shape, amount (1 big one or lots of little ones) et cetera?

It would seem to reason that a taller/thinner vessel would produce fewer larger crystals where as a flat wider vessel would produce more smaller crystals.

Thanks for your input.

not really sure what this is yet but i got these crystals from boiling mimosa in water for a few hours..then filtering..and then let it settle for a few days in the fridge..and then decanting the clear tea off the tannin sludge..then i reduced again to maybe half a fluid ounce..and added half a fl oz of cold water(40F)..this made tannins precip out fast..

then i took 1.5ml of the reduced tea to test it with some sodium carb saturated water

immediate clouding..and then after a day of sitting an amber layer formed on the surface..

i removed it..and this is what it dried into

Did you ever find out what these were?

My first attempt at crystal growing: from ACRB

Re-X via heptane, left to evaporate in shot glass, in a dark cool closet.
Total weight about 1.7g.

Second pic is simply a recent ACRB extraction via naphtha and dry ice treatment (to isolate and remove NMT from solution) that I thought looked kinda cool.

Here are some crystals from my sonicator extract. I dissolved in heptane and did an overnight evap. They're very small though. i would like to grow one big crystal. I've heard putting a seed crystal in the solvent will help make for bigger crystals. \

Anyone have tips for forming big ones instead of small ones?
