Thoughts on this?

"According to Judaism, the ark of the covenant was made of Acacia Nilotica. Again I believe that Judaism was heavily influenced by DMT and its connection to the “spirit world.” In pre-Islamic Mecca, the goddess of their religion was also Acacia Nilotica and was so similar to the Egyptian beliefs around Osiris that there is nothing really to explain on the matter."

Even so, there's an old colloquialism advertised in America during the 1950's and 1960's, pertaining to a commercial hair product called, Brill Cream. A processed hair fixative. It was the post WWII nifty stuff young men and adult men used to comb and smear their hair into an plasticine, sort of close-knit kind of helmet, albeit short and neatly sported in the conservative, yet, hideously grotesque style of the era. Their slogan was, "A little dab will do you."

Perhaps my comments seem bizarre, in light of this thread, but the slogan I was exposed to as a mere boy, has impacted me profoundly. Funny how some of the most mundane crap can reveal treasures beyond measure. I've always thought this idea most profound in principle. "Less is more" and surely, a little dab will surely, do you. Micro-dosing is a respectable approach. Big grin

Like homeopathy and acupressure, relatively small amounts of direct stimuli, in the right mind-set, work wonders. Ergo, any plant matter containing DMT is a gift. Seems logical that the volumes might need tweaking but the Juju would be available to the ardent seekers, even as it is today. I am not at all skeptical that ancient Egyptians had access to our precious elixir. Cool

I'm ill at the moment so i'll write more when i'm OK again .

Hope othes have more info and ideas .

..that article was a bit hasty, and slim..
there's more information on Egypt and acacias in the Trying to Improve Acacia Info thread, if you use the index and have the patience to go through it..or if you're a lot more patient i'll be dealing with this in the book i'm working on..

but 2 quick points:

- it's Acacia tortillis (not nilotica) which seems to be the more important Egyptian tree..it hasn't been formally tested for tryptamines..
(as for A. nilotica, it has had a formal tryptamine finding, one almost certainly dmt formal finding, and a nexian report of quite high levels..it is a very variable species, with at least 9 subspecies)

- i would (and will) argue that there's greater evidence for the smoking of tree derivatives in ancient egypt, than for any 'ayahuasca' like use..
again use the index of that thread and patience...or wait for book..sorry to tease..

it is a good topic Smile

The thing that bothers me about the idea of the ancient Hebrews using some form of DMT, or any other psychedelic for that matter, is that their religion is totally pathological, and this is at odds with our modern conception of DMT as being something generally oriented towards the Good, Beautiful, and True.

OK, maybe the Qabbalah was a worthwhile contribution, but otherwise Judaism is a mind-virus that later mutated into the equally pathological Christianity and Islam. It is not a wholesome or positive force in the world... it is anti-female and anti-Gaia. Never forget that Yahweh ordered the Jews to not only destroy the pagan altars, but also the sacred trees and groves in which they stood!

We all know about the vengeful, spiteful, arrogant god of the Jews. But now we're to celebrate the possibility that Judaism has psychedelic influence? That the accursed Ark was built with Acacia? If it's true, something went terribly wrong...

It is up to each man to interpret their own experiences.
Also perhaps the religion was created, like so many others, to create order and control based around a central belief.
I am not very familiar with Judaism, admittedly, so I cannot elaborate.

"It is not a wholesome or positive force in the world... it is anti-female and anti-Gaia"
Care to elaborate on that? I have an open mind.

It was a slim article, but it brought up some interesting "brain food", some ideas to explore.

Also there could be other interesting alkaloids in the trees that we haven't discovered yet?
^ Possibility, keep an open mind ^

without considering the gnostic paradigm in that discussion I think it's limited in scope.

^ would you clarify that a little, jamie?

I'm not sure if you're saying that the ancient Gnostics should be included in the discussion regarding use of entheogens among the ancient Egyptians & Hebrews, (agreed)

or that I'm unwisely condemning the whole of monotheistic religion by not giving due consideration to their supposed Gnostic elements, (not agreed)

or something else ?

Thanks for the link.

Trifle remark, but Acacia is unlike Ayahuasca's center of gravity: the Vine.
Mentioning Syrian Rue in the article could have sealed the title though.

I am saying there are gnostic elements within some aspects of hebrew mysticism that factor in when talking about the use of entheogens...sort of a side note also, the use of psilocybes as well as acacias in all these traditions, especially among the khemetians should be heavily considered. The mushroom iconography is present all over the ancient khemetian/egyptian world, as well as the acacias..amanitas as well.

In the ancient hebrew world, there was not simply one ruling paradigm of belief..and the gnostics were at times considered as heretics, though maybe not always to the degree that some people would like to believe.

Also when get into later adaptations like christianity, you have to look at what was going on in places like Crete as well..which also has elements of gnosis intertwined..the gnostic ideas inseminated themselves all over the old world.

That sounds reasonable to me, and you make an excellent point re: psilocybes & amanitas.

I have no problem accepting that there are some Gnostic elements present in early Hebrew mysticism... there is always blurring and bleeding at the edges.

However, that rarefied element of Judaism has apparently had a negligible impact on its actual historical and ideological manifestation, which I maintain is thoroughly pathological.

I also suspect that whatever Gnostic elements are to be found in Judaism, Xtianity, etc, were incorporated from earlier Pagan insights & traditions.

Two possible scenarios come to mind:

1) 'Gnostic' Hebrews use entheogens for mystic insights; but an elitist, anti-entheogen contingent of the Judaic priesthood hijacks this knowledge for their own nefarious purposes.

2) Non-'gnostic' Hebrews use entheogens, but become enmeshed in unholy alliance with dark entities.

OK I promise I'll shut up now, don't want to further derail this thread from the fascinating topic of EGYPTIAN entheogens !

The Serer religion in Senegal considers Faidherbia Albida the Tree of Life, and have an intricate indigenous belief system which goes back thousands of years, paralleling in many ways the Dogon of Mali, which includes reincarnation, standing stones, pentagrams and archaeoastronomy. Heres a brief excerpt showing the breadth of this faith:

Quote:
One of the most important cosmological stars of the Serer people is called Yoonir. The "Star of Yoonir" is part of the Serer cosmos. It is very important and sacred and just one of many religious symbols in Serer religion and cosmology. It is the brightest star in the night sky, Sirius. With an ancient heritage of farming, "Yoonir" is very important and sacred in Serer religion,[50][51] because it announces the beginning of flooding and enables Serer farmers to start planting seeds. The Dogon people of Mali call it "Sigui", whilst in Serer it is called "Yoonir" [52] - represented in the form of the "Pangool" (interceders with Roog - the Supreme Deity) and "Man". It is before this event where the Serer High Priests and Priestesses known as Saltigue gather at the "Xoy" annual Divination Ceremony where they predict the course of the winter months among other things relevant to the lives of the Serer people.[53][54] The Pangool (singular : Fangool) are ancestral spirits (also ancient Serer Saints in Serer religion) represented by snakes.

(The symbol for Yoonir is a five pointed star. The Pangool ancestral snake spirits are also especially relevant considering the ties between snakes/anacondas and ayahuasca visions. The Serer religion goes back to prehistory so there is the possibility of at least their ethnobotany being exported to ancient Egypt, and through Alexandria to the Hellenistic world.) The Bamana people of Ghana also revere this tree in an African vegetalismo fashion as shown in this excerpt from African Folk Medicine: Practices and Beliefs of the Bambara and Other Peoples by Pascal James Imperato.

Quote:
Usually, offerings placed at trees are not for the trees themselves but for the powers that inhabit or move through them. Compare, for example, with the Bamana peoples. Their villages, according to Pascal James Imperato, "generally possess protector spirits, known as dassiri which reside in such material supports as trees, animals, or unusual rock formations. These spirits act to counteract the nyama [force freed to roam by death] of animals, men, and inanimate objects which seek to harm the villege as a whole. In many villeges the dassiri is an acacia tree (Acacia albida), but it may be any type of tree.

Nyama is the term for prana or chi in African shamanism. The Blacksmiths of Mali and surrounding areas are the nyama specialists and there is a rich history of magical folklore surrounding them. If we are ever to find an original African ayahuasca still in use I believe it will be within the ethnobotany of this social caste. Faidherbia Albida is a prime contender for the original DMT source species, it has distribution from Africa to Israel and has been found in Iran, supporting the haoma connection.

From wikipedia:

Quote:
Faiderbia albida is known in the Bambara language as balanzan, and is the official tree of the city of Segou, on the Niger River in central Mali. According to legend, Segou is home to 4,444 balanzan trees, plus one mysterious "missing tree" the location of which cannot be identified.

In Serer and some of the Cangin languages, it is called Saas. Saas figure prominently in the creation myth of the Serer people. According to their creation myth, it is the tree of life and fertility.[4]

The northernmost natural populations are found in relict groves in Israel (in the Shimron nature reserve, near the communal settlement of Timrat). All of the trees in a given grove are genetically identical and seem to have multiplied by vegetative reproduction only, for thousands of years.[

Albida being found as far as Israel seems to imply it was cultivated and transported there. Also the Applering seed pods look similar to the red worm Ouroboros from alchemy and gnosticism.

So blue lunar..your take on Hebrew mysticism to me sounds like it parallels much of John Lash's ideas on the subject...am I overreaching?

I admit I have been drawn to much of his ideas in relation to who the Gnostics were in relation to the mysteries, and the myth of Sophia over the years. Lash also supports the idea of the Sethians using Acacia and other entheogenic substances, as well as other gnostic influenced groups and the mystery traditions making use the these substances to directly perceive the cosmic story. He certainly links other pagan groups from the Egyptians to the Druids to the Gnostic paradigm...and I question the origins of Christianity and Judaism myself in terms of weather or not it was ever as pure as some would suggest it was..of if there ever even was something like a true "Christian Gnostic".

His approach to Judaism is pretty extreme, and lately he has been pretty up front and vocal about his anti-semetic standpoint. I am not quite sure what to make of it.

Sorry to go so off topic.
Long live the unwoke.
