So i just ordered some lye but it is not food grade. Is it safe and/or wise to do an extraction with it?

Lye is never food safe as it's a caustic and very strong base. Wear gloves and safety goggles when handling lye or your mimosa soup once it contains lye. Keep a bottle of white vinegar around in case of spillage(esp. if you spill it on your skin). Never handle lye unprotected! It will can turn the fat in your skin to soap and can make you go permanently blind!
