If someone is on 20mg of citalopram a day for depression and they have been taking it everyday for several months how long do they have to wait after they stop taking it in order to be able to use DMT and have normal effects from it and not run into complications like reduced effectiveness or serotonin syndrome?

Good quality Syrian rue (Peganum harmala) for an incredible price!

Dear Seraph,

Citalopram has a halflife of 35 hours Shocked this means after 35 hours your liver has broken down only half of the dose.
Following the classical theorem of halflife it would take someones liver 140 hours to get on a level where only 6.25 % is left over in the body. So it takes roughly a week to get really rid of the stuff.

As far as I know, agree with FastFourierT, serotonin syndrome mostly appears in combination with a MAOI. But if you follow that link you´ll see there are other possibilities too!

My suggestion: Stay save and wait at least a week!

Something that is very important to consider is how long have you been on the citalopram? If you have been taking this for greater than 4-5 weeks on a daily basis then abrupty stopping this medication can have a withdrawal syndrome with a range of physical and psychological symptoms, not least of which is an abrupt increase in anxiety. This clearly is not a good mindset to experience DMT under.

Some people have only a relatively mild abstinence syndrome but others can really suffer. For this reason I would be cautious about abrupty stopping the citalopram if you hve been on it for 4 or more weeks on a daily basis.
I am paranoid of my brain. It thinks all the time, even when I'm asleep. My thoughts assail me. Murderous lechers they are. Thought is the assassin of thought. Like a man stabbing himself with one hand while the other hand tries to stop the blade. Like an explosion that destroys the detonator. I am paranoid of my brain. It makes me unsettled and ill at ease. Makes me chase my tail, freezes my eyes and shuts me down. Watches me. Eats my head. It destroys me.
