I believe my experiences with drugs have made me a better person, more mature and more perceptive. Far more often I am now able to free my mental energy to gain insight.

marijuana - pain and stress relief, makes me calm and reflective.
mdma - love, intimacy
2cx, lsd - insight into the nature of perception
psilocybin, dmt - to become reconciled with the natural world and the nature of consciousness

all of the above have helped me deal with physical pain that I have been in the last two years.

Alcohol - nothing like a good beer at the end of a hard day's work. Sometimes, when the time's right, I'll have 3-4 beers to loosen social inhibitions and have a good time with friends. A glass of proper wine and a good book also go very well together, I find.

Cannabis - occasionally - for insights, meditation, self-reflection, and a good night's sleep. I do find it interferes with dreams, which seem to offer much information to the conscious self, so "everything in moderation".

Acid - I use it occasionally, I find it tends to "land in my lap" at the right times, so I don't go out of my way for it. As Tom Wolfe said, "intellectuals soar on the stuff". To fly, mentally, physically, essentially.

Mescaline - I find this is great for being in the nature, with the Great Sky above, trees around, a gentle breeze.

I use drugs because I am human.

My personal reasons include insight, growth, spirituality, pleasure, euphoria, pain management, appetite stimulation and communication enhancement. My list of substances and activities is long, though some, like alcohol I use extremely infrequently.

I have my issues and still need a job but I feel more fully plugged into every single breath of every moment of my life than ever before. I quit taking drugs to "escape" life years ago. He he, unless you count my heavy reading addiction along these lines.
"But even if nothing lasts and everything is lost, there is still the intrinsic value of the moment. The present moment, ultimately, is more than enough, a gift of grace and unfathomable value, which our friend and lover death paints in stark relief."
