While I'm waiting on an email to confirm my order of bark just wanted to see if anyone on here is familiar with the Rainbow Family of Living Light? what are your feelings toward the gatherings and the family as a whole if so? Something tells me that many of them have a good relationship with the spice in addition to other psychs of course. they frown upon alcohol use also and most harder drugs. For those who are completely unfamiliar with the family, just google it haha. http://welcomehome.org/rainbow/index.html and http://welcomehere.org/ are both main sites for them.

Hi,
You get all kinds of people from all walks of life from all areas of the globe @ the national rainbow gathering. It's really something else! I've only been to one but it was very amazing in a lot of ways. I would definitely suggest going at least once to see for yourself.
Lovin' you!

There is a Global Rainbow Gathering happening on Dec 21st 2012 in Mexico. Facebook Event PageIt says 2009 but it's really for 2012. No idea how legit it is... Just thought it was a weird sync that I literally still had the event open and then saw this thread when I came here to upload a new pic to the Occupy Art thread. Convert a melodic element into a rhythmic element...

Hey now psychotropia6, My first taste of a national Rainbow Gathering was in 1991, in nearby Glover in Vermont. Although, I haven't attended one of the national gatherings since 7/1992, held in Rocky Mountain National Park. So, a lot of things may have changed over the years? I can relay my impressions of the enormous events, from that era. I've never seen so many hippies in one place in my life!!! I believe there we more than 28,000 people at that one? I don't know if DMT is common amongst Rainbow folks but LSD mushrooms and peyote sure used to be! I had eaten 3 strong hits of very, very clean acid. The Grateful Dead were playing in Highgate,VT... so lots of beautiful Dead Heads were in attendance. I had intended on dancing to the multitude of drummers playing hour after hour, into the wee hours of the night. Unfortunately or perhaps, very fortunately (?), I felt like I was way too high to maintain control over my physical body. I saw one teepee in the distance that called to me. I was fortunate enough to enter into the "Silent Meditation" teepee and spent the entire night within it's Sacramental atmosphere. Inside were a very wonderful mix of peoples. One fellow was the anointer in the group and was dosing folks with liquid acid. I passively opened my mouth and stuck out my tongue and received 3 drops. Drip, drip, drip. Wow, this was them most LSD I had ever ingested and I've had "too much", many a time! A lot happened over the next 16 hours... and most of it is beyond the scope of words. I'm not trying to be cute here, I had a major whiteout experience and was floating blissfully within the blinding white light of the Insubstantial Essence, for many hours. I remained highly lucid throughout the trip but it would take a book and a novel, to go into full detail (that which can be spoken of with words). My overall impressions of the Rainbow Tribe, is that they are loving people who travel with a mixed group of good and bad human beings, tagging along for the ride. In the ole days, there was another group who followed the main contingency. They we largely alcoholics, drifters, thieves and occasionally... opportunistic rapists. That was the most heart breaking aspect of the bigger gatherings. They were collectively called, "A Camp". Be that as it may, the Rainbow vibe was awesome and when I got into the massive throng of smiling, dancing hippies... I have to say, it was mind blowing! I felt like I was HOME when I entered into the great circle. I don't think that it is fair to say that such a changing group of individuals would be in some kind of hippie stasis... who knows? But the ideal is still the same, even if the participant may or may not be. I am still processing much of what I encountered in that setting, almost 20 years ago. I second ۩'s advice, I also recommend that you check one out. The regional gatherings are much smaller and far less intense, but of course. If you want a little taste of the original Woodstock Music & Art Festival, you'll find it at a Rainbow Gathering. Or at least a reasonable flashback? There is no self to which I cling, for I am one with everything.

I sure hope they are, as a whole, respectful of the ancient architecture. Man, what a fabulous place to hold one! And there are plenty of psilocybe Mexicana growing wild in the Yucatan region (a close relative to my first true mushroom love, Liberty Caps). if you are going to one of these things i would hope you follow one simple guideline that seems to be ignored by A MINORITY at these "family gatherings". that is; CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELF. there have been stories of the "rainbow family" things coming through for a few days, and leaving a wake of litter and burned ground (fires) in their path. not everyone is inconsiderate, but you DO get lazy assholes no matter where you go. so please, think of the nature, and the animals and people that call it their home. other people would like to enjoy the outdoors as well, without it being strewn with litter. now of course ive never been to one myself, but there is certainly no shortage of people who dislike these gatherings for the reasons i stated above. like i said, there are plenty of respectful considerate people, id say probably the majority, but there are also lazy assholes wherever you go. i think people should take a look at this link: The Rainbow Family’s Footprint in Our National Forests
it highlights the stuff you dont usually hear about. i wonder why. Gun it to 88.....::those who speak do not know, those who know do not speak::..ॐ<3ॐ

^There is always a clean-up crew that stays for a month or two after the gathering cleaning up. If you have such a problem with a potential footprint, you can stay and volunteer with them.

I dont have a problem, and it doesnt affect me in the slightest. im not making a big deal or having a go, all im saying is, if people ARE going to go along to it, please dont be a part of the minority. that was all. apart from that i think its a beautiful thing. thousands of people with similar views and tastes all gathered in the one place. all that crazy energy everywhere must make for quite a ride Gun it to 88.....::those who speak do not know, those who know do not speak::..ॐ<3ॐ

i definitely do have the intention of going to the national gathering in in the u.s. this year. it's on the east coast this time hopefully. that all sounds really cool tho. Rising Spirit, your story sounds like what I would expect lol. that's probably the only place i would except anything called acid from anybody now days. as far as the clean up tho, i've heard mixed reviews all over. some people praise the rainbow family and say that the forests are always exactly the way they were within one year of the gathering, but some people rant and rave about how their stores got robbed and a bunch of dirty hippies ruined their bathrooms. as far as i'm concerned it's just like anything else in life, two-sided.
Now this gathering in mexico. . . that sounds like a good time lol. gonna have to put in for my passport now =b

That article is written in a very derogatory tone, did you read it all the way through, Reborn? While I don't really know much about the matter, I'm guessing that the Rainbow type people tend to have less of an impact on the planet than, say, a similar amount of stereotypical college frat boys. I'm also of the opinion that the earth is pretty hardcore and can take care of itself. We, the human species, may die out but the earth will continue its celestial dance until the sun goes full white dwarf mode.

I agree with StrangeCharm, by the end of that article i felt like the writer had really just made himself look pretty stupid. If you look on the rainbow gathering's websites they actually specifically tell you how to keep the latrines safe and sanitary, which the writer seems to think nobody cares about.

I went to a the annual rainbow gathering a couple years back. It was very relaxing and fun. Everyone I encountered was kind, and when I got lost it couldn't have been a better place to be lost at. Come prepared, leave with your garbage. Have a wonderful experience .

@pscyotrpia6....I went to the national rainbow gathering in WV a few years back and it was a lot of fun. For one thing you're camping out in a beautiful environment with alot of people who usually share similar values about nature, freedom and humanity.
Although it didn't quite live up to my expectations it was still worthwhile and I recommend it. Like anything my understanding is it's changed alot. The grateful dead and travelling festivals aren't as prevalent so some of the energy has faded perhaps, and maybe there's the A camp of drinkers and less peacefully aligned folks who from what I hear have grown in proportion to the overall gathering. Still, worth checking out if you're considering it.
One thing I'd suggest is if manageable try to get out to a gathering on the West Coast if you can. They are likely to be in a more dramatic natural environment and I think the vibe will be a little more true to the original spirit of the gathering. I don't know this from first hand experience, just from talking to other people and intuition.

<3 Rainbow Family! I went to the last 2 annual gatherings in Pennsylvania & Washington. Perhaps we could have a Nexus meetup at the next annual? A Camp still exists, and alcohol is still not welcome at the gathering. DMT is fairly prevalent, but often in very crude/diluted forms. My friend wrote an article/performance piece about Rainbow Gatherings & Burning Man: http://www.realitysandwi...ifesto_burner_apocalypse"The real secret of magic is that the world is made of words, and that if you know the words that the world is made of, you can make of it whatever you wish." - Terence McKenna

Those urls listed in the OP have some information - especially the "Community Calendar." They haven't decided whether the next US annual will be. Local Law Enforcement turned it into a nightmare for anyone who wanted to attend. There was a rediculous ammount of harassment going on. Still it turned out to be a great event. Rainbow is like any other organiztion, its a cross section of society, so you have your ugly 2% in that group. That minority doesnt properly represent the organization. I would reccomend going to any of their events. At national level evets I believe they are probably infiltrated by law enforcement.
