Hello dmt nexus members
Trevor has some expeariance extracting rue and caapi
It has taken him forever to finish extractions from long settling times
Trevor wants to speed things up

Someone with expeariance can be of use to help trevor understand if his setup will work?

Trevor will use buchner funnel with filter flask
Trevor is cheap
Trevor wants not to buy pump
Trevor wants to attatch water aspirator to hose
Maybe this can work by water pressure from faucet
Trevor wants to incorporate a guage for measuring pressure

Different filters are important
Some for clarifying solution before precipitate
Other for filtering precipitate
Must be resistent to strong basic and acid condition

Thnx

Filtering rue sludge is quite effort consuming (filter, manutention...) even if you have a vaccum filter system.
Better bet should be to find a way to accelerate settling like a centrifuge system to settle rapidly the sediment. Try a bicycle wheel, fridge, when you do your tea, use teabag to have less sludge before filtering.
Don't forget to go to the questionnaire and introduce yourself Thumbs up

Trevor likes the idea you are presenting pastanostrilsThumbs up

Trevor does not know much about equipment like this
The things he sees in search are all small volume equipment
Large volume contrifuge seem expensive and may draw unwanted attention to ship

Trevor has a crude idea how he can build a makeshift rotor
But
He wonders can this be done safely

Trevor enjoys having nice equipment over dangerous jerry-rigged contraptions
But
Trevor can settle for makeshift under the right circumstances

Organic "sludges" arent filtered well with buchners + filter paper or glass frits. They clog up leaving you with poor filtering still. What is used in professional settings is more advanced filtering techniques involing filtering agents like celite or flocculation agents to help letting stuff settle. (For example fruit juices are filtered using gelatine or agar agar.)

I dont know if gelatine would work here but you could try. Its cheap and if it doesnt work you can still just let it settle. http://www.cookingissues...index.html%3Fp=1464.html

Trevor is not worried about initial filtering and settling
As much as
Settling the base during washes and precipitations

Trevor uses whole seeds with good yeilds so sludge is not a big issue
Trevor also uses a tip learnt here
He boils seeds wrapped in cloth pouch

Trevor thinks centrifuge is the way forward
Unless buchners will work okay for thick cake of alkaloids
With out crazy high vacuum needed
