The title says it all.

SWIM hasn't paid much attention to his temps but, he had one supplier that seemed excellent
vs all others. The thing with that is he used a different freezer for freeze precipitation while
using product from that vendor.

Anyone know how much of a difference 5 degrees can make? 10 ? 15 ?

I've seen alot about freezing but, never temps..

(seriously, it depends on the solvent being used)

Colder temps means the spice precips faster and as Benzyme says it also depends on the solvent being used.

Although I wonder if it works the way water does i.e. hot water freezes quicker than cold, heat up the solvent and spice mix before freeze preciping??

just have your freezer at coldest setting, and dont make too big pulls so solvent is more saturated.. and dont throw the solvent away after! reuse for more pulls, and after last pull evap solvent all the way for retrieving last alkaloids

Alright sorry. I'm talking about naptha.

SWIM just thinks this switch from freezer to freezer could have been the biggest factor in his loss of yield.
He's used multiple sources with his second freezer with shitty results. He noticed this freezer just isn't that cold like, it freezes ice but, that takes forever.
I guess I'm looking for the highest EFFECTIVE freeze-precip temp. That is, if anyone has ever bothered to check.

the trick, as mentioned, is to have your naphtha as saturated as possible before sticking in the freezer, so make smaller pulls but more of them.. and if you reuse the naphtha after freezing or just evapped it until the end, then you would harvest all the alkaloids anyways and it should definitely NOT be responsible for smaller yield (unless you threw away your naphtha without reusing/evapping after freeze, in that case, dont do that)

I did look into this a while back. -20C is good enough. I was going at -19. Then I got a freezer that was a little warmer @ -15 and I found that I kept having to evap more before freezing

Hot water doesn't really freeze quicker than cold, does it? I've heard that before, but always assumed it was a wive's tale. Please advise.

Read up, I guess it's true.
I really don't know if that would apply to naptha though considering it's viscosity and mass vs water.

It doesn't matter either way though really...
Even if it freezes faster being warm, it cannot possibly reach colder temperatures.

Heating the naptha BEFORE using it to pull DMT though is another story as it will be able
hold more DMT at higher temperatures which in turn will make it seem to crash out faster
(not really, there's just more in the solution TO precipitate) when frozen.

Added (for pokey):
Incase you're wondering because you're honing your techniques, I'd really
only recommend using heated naptha to pull for an A/B otherwise you'll
be pulling more fats compared to room temperature naptha.
