well i am no expert, but i would hammer them up with the bark on (Wrapped in something durable to contain it, or over a large clean surface to reclaim excess) until they are roughly broken down into fibers. then i would shorten the fibers with hardy shears of some kind (i wouldn't worry about shortening the fibers until after you hammer it up).
at this point, you could brew it, if you thoroughly lyse the cells with your brewing.
if you wanted to brew more quickly, i recommend investing the $20 for a heavy-duty coffee grinder. you can only do about a cup of ground material at a time with such a device, but it doesn't take more than a couple seconds per round, so you can work through quite a large sum of material in a relatively short time.
that should render a fine powder intermixed with some longer bits of fiber. 3x30 that, filter, reduce, and either extract or consume.
