MY friend's first attempt at CASA then FASA tek.
He followed the instructions, but instead of the off-white crystals appearing at the bottom of the jar, he got a sludge of lighter colour than the deep red/purple of the CASA solution. When pouring out the acetone mix, he could make out some crystals but it seemed to be more like a sludge... he was wondering if the acetone was not dry enough? He did dry with the baked epsom salt technique.

He decided to try and wash the sludge with more acetone. That just seems to have dissolved the sludge a bit. Should he try drying out the sludge/acetone?

Thx

Good quality Syrian rue (Peganum harmala) for an incredible price!

Decant the acetone and save in a sealed container and keep dry. Dry the sludge on a baking dish, this can be done in the oven around 120-150F.

Thanks - most of the acetone was already decanted and saved in a sealed jar. That is already growing more tiny crystals/sludge.
He has dried out the sludge, and can see there are a few crystals in there but he says it seems to be mostly deep purple salt.
He tried to wash in new (dry) acetone but did not have much effect.
Would he now be able to clean and crystallize out of the deep purple salt using water? Or should he try and clean another way beforehand?

OK - my friend just told me he decided to try dissolving the purple salt in water. Now he has purple coloured water (containing DMT fumerate, he hopes) with settled particles at the bottom. Does anyone know of a good way to purify the water solution? He was going to try filtering through a coffee filter or cotton wool but is afraid of losing a portion of the dmt fumerate. He is going to leave it a while to see if there is further seperation by gravity...

He suspects the initial problem *may* have been inadequate filtering of the original CASA+MRHB solution, or not totally dry acetone, or some combination of the two. However, he is just beginning his journey into kitchen chemisty so he is just guessing.

This is why SWIM would only use the herbal percolator for such a process; it eliminates the need for filtering and decanting, as it's all automated. SWIY is aware that nearly no one has attempted this experimental tek, right? Including SWIM.

SWIM was not aware that it was such an experimental tek!

He was looking for a 'safe' tek that did not involve solvents with nasty fumes.
He is also near completion of ron69's Limonene tek, which seems to be going much better than the CASA-FASA tek.

SWIM decided to try and siphon off the clear purple water which he hopes contains DMT-Fumerate, and evap that and see if he gets some salt crystals... at the worst, he hopes to have some impure fumerate which he may use for oral consumption at some point.

So - swim now has dried out the purple water, which left a hard clear/purple substance at the bottom. He has scraped that up and it looks like it could well be fumerate salt, as it breaks up into little crystals, although it has the purple mimosa colour. No crystals were formed during the evaporation process. SWIM is wondering if its worth carrying on with this tek?? He has another jar with the rest of the acetone and more purple sludge/tiny crystals at the bottom. He is thinking he will decant/filter the water next time to try and get rid of the purple stuff.

SWIM says that such a tek would likely require very strict drying and filtering methods in order to guarantee success and is definitely not recommended for a beginner. SWIM finds the tek interesting simply for the material simplicity of it, since it only requires one solvent and two fairly common acids.

Thanks - SWIM did not realise this when choosing his tek, never mind!
He has decided to carry on dissolving and filtering to salvage what he has.
In the meantime, he has had very good success with ron69's dry limonene tek, so he is happy about that Smile
