Apologies I have searched for this but couldn't find exactly what I was after.

I believe lye and aluminium are not a good mix and produce hydrogen gas. Unfortunately my last bottle got knocked off the shelf and broke and I am trying to find a new 750ml or 1l bottle in the UK for another attempt at Cyb's hybrid salt tek. I have a bottle of Schloer but the lid is aluminium, will the gas or aluminium contaminate the final product?

If you search for 'aluminium lids' a whole host of threads come up.

It is doubtful that such a tiny amount of exposure will do any harm but if you are still worried...just get some cork and whittle a stopper.

by that do you mean adjusting a piece of cork onto the down side of the aluminum cap, not allowing base to touch aluminum or by inferring 'whittle a stopper' you mean make a cork plug to use instead the aluminum cap..

Would using cork allow one to shake the mix - wouldn't basified mix eat out the cork? Sorry if my question is dumb, but i don't have much chemical knowledge. If yes, that means using cork stopper would allow just to roll and shake gently?

i have some dillemas about my mixing bottle too, and just saw this thread, so i am really interested to know about possible reaction and is it possible to clean extracted material by any (or combination ) of the purification methods.

You can get glass solvent jugs with ptfe-lined caps...for example.

Or you can order ptfe-lined caps separately...for example.
