During an A/B extraction method, is it best to use a broad spectrum solvent such as Xylene when the DMT is in its salt form? Obviously this would reduce most of the undesirables, but will it also remove alot of the DMT along with other alkaloid goodies?

If you want to defat, do it correctly; that means, do it with the same solvent you plan on using for pulling the freebases.

Your concern is not to get rid of as many oils/fats as possible, but rather to get rid of those oils/fats that will migrate in your non-polar solvent when pulling the freebases from your basic solution, that's why you use the same non-polar solvent to defat from the acidic solution.

I think I'm going to try an extraction from this wild Phalaris Arundinacea. I don't have any experience whith extracting Phalaris, but I guess a defat step during extraction would be good, right?

I've never done defatting and it would be nice if someone could clarify this question for me:

When has the defat step to be done?

I also guess that the answer has even been given one post above mine. But I want to make sure, that I got things right. So, from what I've read, the defat has to be done, while I got everything in the acidic phase?

And the DMT wouldn't been pulled cause it is not in it's freebase form?

Everything is always okay in the end, if it's not, then it's not the end.

Yes....

But no, defat is not essential with phalaris, you can always clean up later if you want, if you find product is too impure. I think defatting is very wasteful process.

Oh, thank you for the hint. I thought, that a defat step would be necessary for all "leafy" base materials.
