Firstly SWIM would like to say thank you. Although this is a first post, SWIM has recently managed a couple of tasty extractions with the help of norman's tek and the many threads of useful info to be found here. SWIM simply hasn't needed to make a post because theres so much great information here and the site in general is very newbie-friendly, again a BIG thank you,

However SWIM did have one or two questions that he was hoping to get a solid answer on, and that is regarding pre-freezing evaporation.

Is it a good or bad idea to have SWIM's jar of naptha sitting in direct sunlight to evap?

Would a reptile heatpad (surface area 28 degrees C) be a better alternative? Or perhaps both?

Thanks in advance everyone.

Freeze Precipitation does not require evaporation.
You put the saturated solvent in the freezer until the crystals stop forming (usually 12hrs)
then you pour off the solvent (to use again) and dry the crystals (Quickly) with a Cold fan.

Evapping (to air) will evap all the solvent away (wasteful) and leave the crystals (and other stuff)...Keep evapping till no more solvent remains. (A fan can be used to speed up this process or just left in a cupboard for a few days.

Heating the solvent in the sun can be OK but also risky as the fumes are flammable.
The heatpad may help...although it is the Air flow that helps the most (A cold Fan is best)

Check Step Nine HERE for the drying process
Please do not PM tek related questions

Thanks for the reply cyb. Think SWIM will keep it out the sunlight, he really doesn't want to burn his flat down.

I should have stated in my OP that in previous extractions SWIM has put the naptha straight into the freezer, and was happy with the results. However I have read a few posts suggesting evaping half the naptha before freeze precipitation so SWIM was going to try that this time.

SWIM will also invest in a fan, cheers for the heads up.

Fans are essential, and if you have time, all ya really need.
I like to use my fan to reduce down solvent slightly, and also for helping to increase indoor circulation (fan out the window with a door open never fails to help clear the air)
