Citric acid is food safe, so no problems with that.

However, Bitrex (denatonium benzoate), is reported as toxic if swallowed. Normally the tiny amounts that can be accidentally ingested along with another toxic product, seasoned with it to prevent ingestion thanks to its extreme bitter taste, will not be significantly harmful - otherwise it would defeat the whole purpose of its use. But you're talking about pure residue here, obtained after denaturalized alcohol evaporation, and what's more, ingested in a capsule, which bypasses the natural defence of the body reacting to the bitter taste.

I would refrain from using denaturalized alcohol for procedures resulting in a compound to be ingested. Use high proof ethanol like everclear, with no toxic additives.

I'm attaching the Denatonium Benzoate MSDS sheet for reference.

I hope its not considered off topic, but this reminds me: what about using vinegar that contains sulfites? Apparently its toxic in higher amounts, and I imagine that if I smoked something containing it that I'd get a nice high dose.

Perhaps the real question is if when I do a polar wash of my non-polar solvent containing freebase DMT would it remove the sulfites?

Maybe activated charcoal will remove the bitrex. I know from experience that it removes the colorant. Its easy to test if you have got it right, just taste it. I recommend diluting it with water before tasting it to avoid burning your tongue. I'd recommend just putting a drop on the tongue to minimize the amount of methanol and bitrex you ingest by tasting. I personally see no problem (no more than any other hardware store reagent anyway) with using denatured alcohol as a solvent, so long as you remove the non volatile denaturants first. I can tell you how to make a ghetto distillation apparatus if you want. I made one before and it worked.

Which sulfites are they? Metal sulfites (and salts in general) generally have pretty high boiling points, so as long as your not using a blow torch, I don't think theres much risk of inhaling them along with the alkaloids. Sodium sulfite melts as 600C and decomposes at higher temperatures.

Chemistry in general is dangerous. Make sure you wear eye protection at all times. For distillations, you should ALWAYS add boiling chips to the boiling flask BEFORE heating. This prevents bumping. Safest to distil in a shed or outdoors and always have a fire extinguisher/sand bucket/wet towel/whatever ready just in case a fire breaks out. Be careful with oil baths. You really need to learn about distillation safety before doing it.
