I plan to do a Jungle Spice extraction and I want to use Xylene. I bought Xylol at the store and it says on the bottle it contains Xylene and Ethylbenzene and is 100% aromatic hydrocarbon. Should I be using pure Xylene? Or is this the right stuff? There are other places I can go.

it doesn't really matter.
they have very similar polarities (nonpolar, water immiscible)

But would it be more soluble as just pure Xylene?

solubility is a function of intermolecular interactions...dipole moments, and nonspecific interactions (van der waals, which is the predominant force in nonpolar solvents).

in layman's terms, those solvents have nearly identical solubilities with the solute of interest.

Haha I got that part but I just want to avoid impure or toxic residues in my crystals. But then again I will be recrystallizing with heptane (unless that's incorrect?) For pure jungle spice

If you re-x in Heptane you will just have DMT and not full spectrum spice. "Pure" Jungle spice is a misnomer because Jungle by its nature is as many alkaloids (and whatever else has been pulled)as possible. To be honest i used to think that Jungle spice was what was pulled after as much DMT was taken out with solvents such as naphtha, heptane etc, before using the likes of Xylene or Limonene.

So when pulling with xylene after all the dmt is pulled with naptha, how does one re-x the jungle spice?

You dont. Refrence my last post. Jungle spice pulled after extracting with normal solvents is a goo so re-x is not applicable.

Check out the section on jungle spice on the wiki in Q21Q21 extraction tek here

But from what I understand, anything that's been pulled with xylene should be washed with acetone.
