SWIMS product looks nice and white and clean. It was extracted with naptha. I then extracted the spice with tolouene. I heard lye burns at a too high temperature to worry about. Do I really need to do an ammonia wash.

Good quality Syrian rue (Peganum harmala) for an incredible price!

i'd wash it with sodium carb water instead... ammonia may technically "clean" it but I wouldn't let that stuff touch my spice with a ten foot pole... its disgusting

This is a bit confusing... you don't say which tek you followed, and you say it was extracted with naphtha, then extracted with toluene?

In any case, the ammonia wash has been advised against several times due to many reports of loss of yield. If you want to wash your spice in the end, a sodium carbonate wash is preferred. Please read the FAQ before continuing the thread, you might find your answers there.
