A (now former) friend and I had been attempting some MHRB extractions (STB, noman's tek plus sodium carbonate wash), had some solvent consolidated in a jar from several pulls on a 50g mason jar extraction. Before we could find time to retrieve the crystals, I had to move away to school. Due to a very unfortunate lack of communication (but not of attempts to communicate, on my end at least Confused ) between us in the days leading up to my departure for school, this solvent was left in my friend's closet at his house, for 3 months until I returned home for a short visit. After I finally managed to get in touch with my friend he returned many of my things to me, including this solvent which he had kept.

Now I noticed the solvent has a small layer of water under the naphtha. This was not present at the time of my departure, but given the jar that was used it wouldn't surprise me if some moisture managed to get into it, and build up over the course of 3 months. I have read that water will dissolve DMT, and also that it does degrade while dissolved in water.

My question is, what does this mean in terms of the effects on the actives in the naphtha? the amount of water is small, perhaps about 1cc in maybe 50cc or more of naphtha, I really dont know even the amount of naphtha that is just a guess. And also, how would I go about retrieving anything dissolved in the water (if it would even be worth it)?

Right now my plan would be to just evaporate the water and perhaps try to recrystallize what is left behind with heptane, because since I probably won't have access to a freezer I think I will be evaporating/recrystallizing the portion that is in the naphtha also (assuming it wasn't all destroyed by sitting with this water for months!).

TL,DR: Solvent (naphtha) containing DMT is left in SWIM's closet for about 3 months, and a small amount of water accumulated in the jar over these 3 months. Given DMT degrades in water, how would this affect the DMT in solution (would it likely have degraded ALL the dissolved DMT?), and if anything worth retrieving is dissolved in the water how could I retrieve it?

I've tried several searches and the FAQ and haven't found much that would direct me as to what to do with this water, or indicate the scale of the effects over such a period of time. Any help, or thoughts on the viability of my plan or anything concerning the situation, would be greatly appreciated!

Good quality Syrian rue (Peganum harmala) for an incredible price!

Ok so now i have since returned to my extraction. Before leaving i had removed the water from the solution and placed it in a small chalice to let it evaporate, as i (and unfortunately, apparently nobody else who had seen this thread beforehand?) couldn't really think of a better course of action. the container was left in a tight space with a tissue secured over the top for 2-3 weeks. the marks on the glass represent the initial level of the water

what is left appears to be a small amount of transparent crystal formations along the upper part of the glass (these can't be seen very well in the pictures, the one taken from above gives the best view. you can see them best in the bottom of this picture, it looks this way all around the glass at that level) above a layer of some sticky slag, the top of which is also clear, while there is an reddish brown-colored layer at the bottom.

am i correct in thinking these upper formations are freebase crystals, which had been seperated from the bottom layer of (again, i assume) impurities?
would there likely be any actives left in these bottom layers? worth a recrystallization?

any input or thoughts on this or my previous post would be very much appreciated! feel free to post any thoughts about my extraction, my procedure, any actions i have taken or should take.
