Hi all,
I'm following Q21q21 tek, about to do first pull using Naphta and then - freezer.
tek says that freezer will stink of naphta for few days, whether you put a lid on container or not.. I have some food in my freezer and that I'm worried about. Does it really stink and can it ruin frozen food? [meat, cookie dough, butter etc].

if I will put naphta in a jar and screw a lid on? will that help to keep naptha fumes out of my freezer?

Thanks

Hi liklyut,

if the container you use is tightly sealed (as for instance in a glass mason jar with a lid) no naphtha vapors at all will get out of it and you should not worry about any smells.

In the tek, Q21Q21 mentions he finds easier to work with a small baking tray, which doesn't bring a proper lid of its own, and his statement about smells refers to that, but any glass hermetic container will keep vapors inside just fine.

I second what Vodsel says above. I did this tec for the first time, and had similar concerns. I even considered buying a second hand table top freezer to keep in the garage just for this. But based on a similar comment from Vodsel on a different thread I used a small pyrex dish with airtight lid, and to make doubly sure I put this inside an airtight plastic container, and can confirm that there is no smell at all in the freezer.

Actually, when I open the plastic container after a couple of days there is a very faint smell of naptha, so the pyrex dish is probably not entirely airtight, so I think the second container is worthwhile if you are as neurotic as me!

Brilliant,
Thanks for your ideas. I will go with wide mouth jar with proper lid for it.

peace

I used a wide neck jar for the first three pulls and it crystallized absolutely beautifully. But ... scraping the crystals out of the jar was not easy, getting the razor blade around the bottom and along the edges was fiddly and constantly scraping and pulling it made it very waxy and I think a lot of the product ended up melted on my fingers.

Most recent pull was using this:

So much easier, faster and more efficient to scrape the crystals.

Good luck whatever you use anyway. This was my first ever extraction and it went perfectly. Made me feel happy in my heart Smile

Love
