Need some pro help:
In a previous extraction my "friend" had gotten through it using a gallon glass pickle jar. When he did his last pull, he decided to put the jar into a pot of very hot water.
Apparently the glass had already been weakened from 5 other pulls, and moments after being placed into the water, the jar cracked and the bottom fell clean off.
On this next venture, would a car boy be more appropriate to use as long as there isn't any heating beyond the reaction from lye? He knows lab grade would be the way to go but its got to be affordable and $300-500 for a container isn't an option
What have your "friends" been most successful with?
Thank you!

I used lab grade 2 litre bottles (25$ it cost me) which is affordable and very good quality. Recently I switched to 1 litre brown (amber) pharmaceutical bottles (a lot of them) which cost me like 4$ each. You can buy them in the pharmacy (at least here you can)

Is this for small batches?
In this last extraction he used a pound of powered mhrb and the yield was over 1:1, so he's wanting to keep it consistent.
He doesn't actually follow any specific tek beyond measuring the powder and the lye. Solvent isn't measured as the trial run didn't yield productive results, so space inside the container for proper mixing/ rolling a pound is important. He really doesn't want to run into the breaking problem again!

With 1 litre bottles you can put in 750ml water, 50g lye, 50g salt, 50g MHRB and then maybe 50ml solvent in each bottle so depending on how many bottles you get you can count on 50g rootbark for 4$ which is quite good cost I'd say.

Very helpful advice. I know he was wanting to keep it all together as one batch, but if smaller batches means less error I think its worth the compromise.
His method is still being refined but he babies the mix from start to finish and there is no set time for it being done. It simply tells him when its ready....
Will keep you posted!

I think he was more concerned with the glass thickness more than anything.
He found a nice gallon jar with super tight seal, the "ball" brand used for canning but says specifically "do not use for canning" with the number (3) on the bottom. He figures the only way is to try and see what happens!

Rapid temperature changes are the main reason for breakage. Heat your jar up by itself before putting it into anything hot, or putting anything hot into it. Helpful tips here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_kkTkDJxLkNo direction but to follow what you know, No direction but a faith in her decision, No direction but to never fight her flow, No direction but to trust the final destination.
