A bird I heard is trying his first DMT extraction and is constantly hitting roadblocks. He is attempting the Lazyman's Tek. He told me his process step by step, as follows:

Materials:
225g MHRB
1L 12mL Distilled water
100g NaOH
200mL VM&P Naphtha
Large glass pickle jar

Whole process took roughly 5 hours not including evaporation.

1. Powder MHRB with stainless steel coffee grinder.
2. Dissolve sodium hydroxide in water and let sit to cool
(for an hour and a half to finish grinding MHRB).
3. Add powdered MHRB to solution and mix thoroughly with rubber
spatula. The mixture at this point turns into a very thick, black
sludge.
4. Let solution sit for 2 hours before adding 200mL of Naphtha. Stir
very well with rubber spatula, let settle, repeat once more.
5. Let Naphtha fully separate from the solution (about an hour and
a half because the solution is sooo thick).
6. Pour Naphtha off the top into a 6" by 4" glass pan, placed in
front of a small fan to evaporate.

The Naphtha is still evaporating but does not look promising.

This is actually bird's third attempt from the same kilo of MHRB (which came shredded but not powdered). First two attempts he used Norman's STB Tek. After putting the collection jars in the freezer overnight a very small amount of crystals were collected (about 2 hits worth, both attempts put together)and the remaining Naphtha filtered through a funnel/coffee filter and was reused (floating crystals disappeared when put through filter). Other than the tiny crystals, a pale orange paste formed on the bottom of both jars, which was scrapped off and put on a coffee filter.

Nothing seems to be working effectively. One thing he's learned so far is that one must stir or shake the Naphtha into the solution a little more than gently to get it thoroughly mixed to pull the DMT. This was thought to be the first mistake, as the first attempt produced a completely clear Naphtha layer after "gently" mixing. Second attempt the Naphtha was turned to a light "pee yellow" color, which produced about a hit (not as much as one would expect on the combination of the first 3 extractions of 130g MHRB).

If/when this tek fails, he's going to try and follow Nature Boy's Tek to the T (including all the 24 hour waiting periods)and see if it will work.

i would imagine if using 225g MHRB you would need more then 100g Naoh.

I'm by no means an expert but here's my opinion -

I don't think it's enough lye. In the FAQ it recommends 1g lye per gram of rootbark. 200g lye would probably work in this case. Test the pH of your mimosa soup if you can, I bet it's not high enough. If the pH is too low you won't get anything.

Also you haven't used enough water. Your solution should be thin like water not thick and sludgy. When using powdered rootbark as opposed to shredded you need way more water than what it suggests in the lazy man's tek. I found this out the hard way and wasted half a pound of rootbark. I got the dreaded 'red naptha' and only managed to yield brown wax. Although this doesn't seem to be your problem here it's worth bearing in mind for future.

I reckon it's the lye issue, see what other nexians respond with.


Also check out Cyb's salt tek. Really straight forward, really high yield. I'm in the process of doing it and it's looking good.

100g of lye should be plenty basic to freebase 225g MHRB. You could always add more water and lye but thats not your problem. Most likely your problem is coming from two possibilities:

-You need to let your naptha come in contact with your basic solution more, and longer. You're stirring it?? Thats not good enough. You need it in a large jar and mix it well with lots of swirling/turning over for atleast 5 minutes each hour for 3-4hrs. Try to not shake in alot of air bubles. Then seperate the pull and do it again with more naptha. Do that 3-4 times and you will have spice.
-Your bark could always be weak too.

hi...I'm new here. My neighbors cat told me she's trying out the salt tek too, it sounds really interesting and simple.
One thing she did mention was on the first try she messed it up a little by swapping the acidifying and basifying steps.

guess it can happen when reading too many teks at once. She's decided to carry on and see what happens, perhaps just doing the basifying again (after acidifying).
She also started a second batch. Will post once I hear from her again...
