after putting the nathpa in I can see little boubles rise to the top to linger for a little and pop and the black solution sinks down. Is this normal ok or not good?

Pros and cons of waiting how long to do your first pull?

after you freeze I read you pour the naptha through a coffee filter. Is that to pick up any strays or what? If you re use naptha it wouldn't really matter? Or what's the best way to go about it?

The bubbles are completely normal, not to be confused with an emulsion. If you leave it for 30 minutes or so, the bubbles will all disappear. SWIM is doing his own experimentation, and he waited longer between each agitation on his second pull. It seems like SWIM is yielding more crystals from the second pull than from the first pull.

As you freeze, the DMT forms as crystals at the bottom of your glass. Most of these will stick to the glass, but there are some that will be suspended in the naphtha. I assume that the coffee filter is just to catch those strays that are floating around in the naphtha, but I could be wrong.

Here is something cyb suggested to me:

"Drain ALL the solvent off the xtals by leaving upside down for a while (10mins) Then blow a fan into the glass till all is dry and does not smell of solvent (10/20mins) (dont blow the xtals away)."

Bubbles rising and popping is normal...the more you shake, the more bubbles there will be.
I wait till all is still and flat before pulling.
1st pull after 1 hour of agitation....some go earlier.
Too long and it may pick up some yellow

No need to pour through a filter...just suck up with a turkey baster into a jar and pour the last bit out and then leave upside down for a while to drain fully. Then fan dry further if you can.
Hope this helps...

This has helped thanks. My plan is to do a sort of tornado motion that seems to mix the naptha in the solution well without causing much disturbance. Thoughts on tipping upside down?

I'm putting the frozen naptha in a dish to dry out and plan on doing a recrystalization with whatever i get from that at the end of it all.

again thanks for the help love this forum and will start to answer questions and not just asking them. Only if I feel confident with my info of course.

You probably won't get the naphtha mixed in by a tornado motion. SWIM had an inch of clearance at the top of his mixing jar, so turning it upside down and back to right side up worked perfectly for him.

Here's the best tip I can give anyone doing an STB Tek:

Dissolve 25g of regular Salt in a little Hot water...Add this to your mix...
You will never have to worry about emulsion/bubbles again...it nullifies the problem.
So you can shake all you like.
And here's the good bit....It increases your yield loads...
I get 2% regularly now I use Salt.
Big grin

I saw the salt thread relating to yeilds and did have a small problem with one emulsion on my last extract so I'll definitely be trying this next time. The way I see it, only positive things can come from trying it.
