Okay, after having done Q21Q21's extraction tek number 2, several times now, I thought I had a feel for how this works but a strange anomaly occured this time.

First a breif history:

About a year ago, I purchased 500mg of my first MHRB, and did my first extraction of 100mg, then two other extractions of 200mgs; with about a month or two between each extraction. But from the very first pull, everything went well and I felt I had done everytthing correct then.

Now:

Well I hadn't needed to purchase more MHRB until recenlty and last night I started my first extraction in quite awhile. I felt fairly comfortable with what I was doing, and went ahead and decided to exctract from 500mgs at once. I hadn't done this for some time so I went ahead and printed out the tek instructions to have handy, and followed them precisely. I made all the neccessary measurements for the amount of MHRB I was using.

Everything seemed to be going just as it had in previous attempts. After letting the first pull crystalize over night in the freezer, I returned to find a decent amount of crystals had formed in the glass cake pan and were gently floating around in the naptha. It looked as if there may have been close to two grams that had percipitated in the first pull. Just as always I had an identical glass pan ready, prepped for the next pull, then poured the excess naptha back into the MHRB mush, careful not to spill out crystals.

From where I tilted the pan to pour out the excess naptha a bunch of crystals had collected in the corner of the dish, making a small pile which looked to be about a gram in itself, and probably a half or whole other gram spread out across the rest of the container.

So as usually I stirred the second pull and poured that into the 2nd pan and placed it into the freezer. Then set the first pan on the floor next to an open window to let dry. At this point I had to go to work, when I returned I found that the contents of the pan had mostly evaporated. All that was left was a small clear, wet and somewhat sticky residue. This was nothing like previous extractions. Before I was always left with dry white flakey crystals stuck all over the pan, with somewhat of a sticky residue.

This was so disappionting. I don't really know what's wrong here. So I pulled out the 2nd pull from the freezer which had crystals that formed. I poured off the excess naptha and let it sit to dry. after about 30 minutes it seems here too the crystals had begun to disapear as the pan warmed up in the room and the naptha started to dry. Although it doesn't seem to be completely drying and there is somewhat of a wet sticky residue remaining. It as if the crystals are melting or evaporating away.

Does anyone know what might cause this?

The only things that have changed from the first time I did this extraction are:

MHRB - This is new MHRB different from my first extractions, although is probably of good quality and nearly the same. Although my first MHRB purchase was from a vendor on ebay that I randomly purchased from. This time around I purchased from a vendor recommended in the vendor forums.

Location - I'm at a different location than from when I did my first extractions. Before I was in an apartment that I lived in. This time I did the extraction at a friends place. The only thing that I could think would be different but shouldn't make a difference is it's a completely different freezer, but I'm certain works just as well. Also, this place doesn't have air conditioning, and it's decently hot. Still I don't know if this would have any affect on the drying crystals, would it?

I feel that I did the tek properly, becuase in the end it resulted in crystals forming, yet they somehow seem to be disapearing in the drying process. I've tried to provide as much information as possible, so does anyone have any clue what's going on here?

I think the heat melts the crystals before the naptha has time to evaporate. This happened to me, will never do an extraction again in the summer!

Perhaps if you collect the residue with a small amount of warm naptha and put it in a shot glass to evaporate. Worked for me.
