I have succesfully completed stb's on 2 different occasion and an a/b once. This time around I was supervising a project I went halves on . specs:
4 -gallon milk jugs
-227 g mhrb in each
-roughly 3000 mls water each
-380 grams lye each ( I know thats over kill but I use bestine and I wanted to see of it would help yield)
50 ml bestine per pull

lye was added to water inside jugs and shaken and aloud to turn clear. MHRB was added to all jugs and shaken again, these were allowed to sit for 1 hrand 15 mins. each jug was rotated 2x for two mins each and seperated quite easlily and fast. One of the jugs came back red, blood red the very first pull. jusgs were rotated in the same manner until 4 pulls were obtained.clear pulls were all combined into one jar. Now, the red pulls... These wre placed in a jar of their own. a few table spoons of S. bicarbonate was added to 500 ml of water and I began washing my red pulls with 100 ml until the solution became light brown, then a pinkish color...I could not get it to go much lighter than a milky pink-(I added 20ml fresh bestine to the sodium carbonate wash and pulled three times because I wanted to see if any alkaloid was in the water this is currently freeze preciping) -I was down to 3 jars. these were placed in the freezer and crystals formed. 18 hours passed and I took the jars out of the freezer and dumped the heptane into a bowl, I did this too each jar. As I expected the red pulls that were cleaed left me with a thick goo with some orange crystals that turned into an oil within 5 mins . The other two jars had very nice dense white crystals with some yellow in the bottom. These two jars with the white crystals also turned back into goo, minus maybe a half gram or so that didnt melt. However I used two pounds of mhrb and from the amount of crystals that I noticed did not seem like much. If I had to guess it seemed maybe 2 grams maybe 2.5 which is hopful thinking. The four jugs were allowed to sit overnight roughly 18 hours and a 5th pull was conducted on each...two of them the bestine came back crystal clear and the other two were very dark and barely clouded as I blew on them. The yield that I am seeing thus far doesnot seem even close to what I recieved on my past two STB's , I usually get around 3.5grams of fluffy white from a pund of mhrb using bestine, no clean up needed, I also use 1.5 punds lye to a pound of MHRB soo this batch the lye content wasnt much more- and I am under the impression that more lye doesnt matter- am I wrong?-ok, back to the point. I took all of my oil/crystals/goo and did a re x. There was red in the bottom- what is this redness and why is my yield so low? I still have my 4 jugs and was planning on pulling a few more times with toluene even though it seems my jugs are spent. Any help would be greatfully appreciated as I am broke and most likely not ordering any more bark for a while. thank you

Try a heat bath on your pulls...... ?
There's another thread suggesting to use unionized salt 1-1.5 per X your mhrb. You could try that with your mix now and pull, see what you get. I am curious about this salt thing.

As for the red... Anyone else know about this?

As for the melting thing. You should always decant solvent off and quickly place the spice container back in the freezer uncovered. Then when dry, bring out of freezer covered to let sit, to bring up to room temp. Otherwise you will get melting and condensation.

thanks electric kool aid and I did heat my jugs and bestine for the last pull each - but I may have jumped the gun on this one..I just took my jar out of the freezer and - the one I did a re x on and there is a cake on the bottom of shards. I only used around 200ml of heptane beacuse I thought that it was only a couple G's well now there are thousands of crystals -not white but a beige and some white stuck together like a dmt hockey puck.any one ever done this before?
