Greetings! I am so excited to finally be REALLY DOING THIS!!! However, I am hitting a snag, and wondering what the best way to continue might be.

I'm doing the "DMT for the Masses" STB extraction with a 1g MHRB : 15ml water : 1g Lye ratio. the problem I encountered on my first try was that the water/rb poweder was WWWWAAAAYYY to sludgy and wouldn't go through the stopcock on my separatory funnel. Soooo, if I double the water and Lye to rootbark ratio, I'll probably help this problem... However, I'll end up with more water than my separatory funnel can handle, and I'm back to the problem of what to do with the funnel... If it even solves the problem.... So, my question is this, can I filter out the plant materials before I ad the NPS, or does the NPS need to come into contact with the plant materials?

Thanks for the help.

also, my coleman fuel seems to have a very slightly blue tinge to it. Is that bad?

Were you using prepowdered or did you grind your own?

under remarks Kerberos has some good advice.

It might be. Did you do an evap test yet?

Yeah, I read that same thing on Erowid about increasing the water. I would assume I also have to increase the Lye, in order to maintain the same pH. Is that a correct assumption?

To answer your other question, No I didn't do an evaporation test. This would mean leaving some of the coleman fuel out in a cup and see if there's any reside left over after it evaporates, right?

Also, is it possible to just filter out the plant material after it sits in the lye bath for a while? or does the NPS extract the DMT straight from the plant matter, with the lye bath only increasing the soulability of the DMT in NPS rather than actually drawing the DMT out of the plant matter into the lye solution?

and if I do the evaporation test, how do I know if whatever is left is "showstopper" bad?

Evaporation test is a must! Take a cd and pour a bit on there and let dry. If you see nothing after it dries, then you are in business! However, if you get a goo on there, then it is not pure naphtha. You will need to get another brand.

Lye is used to up the ph level to 12-13ph. It also breaks down the material. Then the solvent can sepurate it and pull the dmt out.

Usually you use 1.5% more water if using prepowdered. 2% might be overkill.

Goodluck. Others will be here to help if needed!

First of all, if you want to use a separatory funnel, you work with A/B, not STB like noman's tek.

Secondly, please, for your own safety, before using new chemicals/solvents that you aren't 100% are clean, do an evap test and other tips mentioned in the FAQ. Did you check the FAQ yet, there are plenty of very important facts/tips there.?

Thirdly, for the love of god Electric Kool-Aid, do not spread this horrible idea of testing evaporation of solvents in a CD. Dont know who invented this but it's a bad bad idea, Some material from the CD might melt (and it's not really see-through) so you might not really know if it's a clean evapping solvent or not. Use a glass pyrex dish.

I took the advice from the FAQ and googled the MSDS for coleman fuel. According to those results, this IS pure Naptha.

http://zenstoves.net/MSDS/Coleman.htm

Who knows how often or quickly these kind of things might change recipes, though.

Yes, things sold as fuel dont have same obligations regarding maintaining ingredients and writting on the label, such as a product used in a lab or food-grade chemicals. Thats why its always recommended to do an evap test, appart from checking msds and so on.

Also Im just gonna add a tip to the FAQ, but you can also try doing a dilute acidic (like vinegar) and then basic wash to yuor solvent, which might help getting rid of some impurities that might be in it, if they are polar enough (which could be the case for rust-inhibitors in some solvents), though of course the wash is no guarantee and its always better to get a clean solvent in the first place (and evap test is a must in either case).

Yes, use a big stainless steel strainer to sepatrate the liquid and plant material, extract, and add the liquid back to the plant material for another soak before the next extraction.

If that's still too much volume for your funnel, you can siphon the aqueous off of the bottom with a bit of tubing and do the final separation with your funnel.

It's a pain in the ass, but the best way that I know of.

Endlessness, In regards to using separatory funnel for A/B and not STB. Was it just dumb luck it worked for STB Noman tek with additional advice of Kerberos(not talking about OP's experience)? Or was it because the material was finely ground and sifted? I'm guessing that has to be it (finely ground, sifted) because there wasn't any issue with it clogging 1000ml funnel, it worked like a charm. I can see where ANY chunks would easily clog a funnel though.

Thank you again.

So... I've got my spice... Thanks to you folks. Now, for the next, logical question... If one doesn't have a nice a nice, accurate, expensive scale... how does one dose?

Oops! Embarrased didnt think about the plastic melting.. How could I be so stupid!! Sorry bro! Surprised I guess I heard that back when I first picked up my naphtha solvent. The test did work, but yeah it is very dumb...

PLEASE NO ONE TRY THE CD EVAP TEST!! Thumbs down

result...

Some is very shiny white. Some a greenish-yellowish (booger color). Booger stuff seems a bit wetter, and stickier. Seems to be improving somewhat as it dries out more and more. What do you folks think of my first try?

I wonder about the blue Coleman fuel. When I did the evap test, I didn't have any residue, but there's a lot of stickiness now, left over after scraping the jar I used for the freeze precip... If there is a problem, can I fix it with a recrystalizaion, or do I need to start from scratch? Also, if there is some impurity, what potential dangers does one face from vaporizing it?

It looks good. Sticky jars are no big.
A recrystalization should clean it up nicely.
Good work.

I haven't tried this but remember reading ....

A Sep funnel be helpful with STB. After separation, use a baster to roughly remove solvent (not worrying if you get a small amount of water/bark) and transfer to a sep funnel for accurate separation.
