Four feet of San Pedro Trichocereus Pachanoi Cactus Cuttings were prepared by cutting away the dark green flesh, and discarding the rest of the cactus. The flesh was then placed in a plastic bag and frozen/thawed three times. The cactus chunks and resulting goo were then placed in two large pots filled with water and boiled/simmered. As the water evaporated more was added until the mixture had cooked for 5 hours. The liquid was then separated from the chunks by decanting from one pot into another multiple times. The remaining liquid had almost no foreign debris in it and was a brownish colored liquid (unfortunately no pictures were taken). This liquid was boiled down until there was about 100 ml remaining, at which point the experimenter was required to leave for some days. The liquid was placed in a sealed mason jar and left in the refrigerator. Three days later the liquid in the jar had separated in two distinct layers. The bottom layer was a white to off-white, and appeared to be solid, the top layer was a brownish liquid. Thinking that perhaps the bottom layer was somehow the mescaline fallen out of solution, the two layers were put into separate pyrex containers and left to evaporate.

The bottom layer evaporated and was scraped up, the result was slightly more than 6 grams of this substance:

The top layer was evaporated, and it appeared that crystals may have been forming on the top as it did, unfortunately when the it was attempted to scrape the crystals off, the now resinous substance all rolled up together resulting in this:

The result appeared exciting until the realization set in that it wasn't quite clear what had happened. The powdery substance is very bitter and has a cactus-y taste to it. Using himself as a guinea pig under the assumption that at the worst what he would be ingesting was inactive cacti components the experimenter took slightly over 400 mg of the powder substance in capsule form, the effects of which can be described as mild at best. Extremely lucid thoughts, but sleep came easily only a few hours after ingestion.. not the psychoactive experience that was expected by any means. There has not yet been any experimentation with the resin.

These are my questions, does the powder substance appear to be mescaline, albeit a less than 100% pure form? If not, is it likely that the resin contains mescaline? And lastly, WHAT HAPPENED??

Thanks for your help!

The bottom layer was just the solids falling from the tea. Not particularly active. The goodies stayed in the top water layer. The resin you made from that layer should be more active.

In the end, it comes own to the cactus. That resin could be strong or weak.

Since you felt a little something from the sediment... The resin is probably active.

Only one way to know for sure.

Btw getting crystals from that tek takes practice and a strong cactus. I think it comes own to decanting. Maybe leave that jar in the fridge for a week.... Decant and reheat to kill any bacteria that could make it sour and then leave that for another week to settle, then decant again. I don't know fo sho. It is not an art I've mastered. I was thinking maybe add a little ethanol to keep it from spoiling and let it set for a long while... Decant and then boil off the ethanol while reducing down

Awesome, thanks Madcap... Yeah there was a little wishful thinking there that somehow all the goodies had fallen to the bottom. Update to come when the resin is tested.
