I know that you can steam distille oils from things is it possible to do so with Mimosa Hostilis and if so do you start with a relitivly good spice base.

Good quality Syrian rue (Peganum harmala) for an incredible price!

Well to steam distill a mimosa solution you would be boiling water at.. 100 degrees c. This might destroy the DMT, then again it may be protected by the liquid phase. A vacuum would bring this temp down. But i have no idea if alkaloids would be carried over by the steam, tho i doubt it.

Essentially, i don't know but i doubt it.

From what I got, Most alcaloids are in salt form and can't be steam distill (I.E:coffee, you find Essential oil but no coffein innit).
You steam distill oils. There are some substance however that keep their psychoactive profile intact if steam distilled ( I.E: Nutmeg, valerian etc..) but I'd bet it's becoz their active subsance is an oil).

so would you have to extract it first then then when it's in it's free base form carry out a distillation to purify?
I remeber reading in Tihkal that shulgin uses alot of distillation and fractional distillation to purify oils. my knowledge in O.Chem is pretty limited, i've never done a mimosa extraction but really want to learn how to make those beautiful white shards.Very happy
I'm getting a small setup, so I can learn how to distille essential oils for soap and make my own H2O for my mushies, figured if I have it, why not try with mimosa, plus my friend has like a lbs of it just sitting there ready to experiment...
havent done DMT in 12 years and really want to do it again.

reading here i see thath DMT melts at 46 degrees...
than it will not melt at this temperature and than evaporate?

Sorry, that's freebase DMT... the extracted one...
When in the plant it is N-N-DMT, an acid salt, and melting point according to Thikal is 165-167 degrees, but it's soluble in water!

Distillation seems like a lot more hassle than its worth, surely easier and cheaper to use the proven methods here. The cost for an appropriate setup is just not worth it, and there are no guarantees it will work as well as the standard extraction methods or at all.

hmmm... the melting point of dmt is 104 °F but you want the dmt to evap and dmt begins to boil at 320 °F

not sure of the burning point of dmt but i know i can burn it with a bic lighter (butane flame ~1900°F) but im sure that 320°F is a lot lower than the burning point of dmt i guess if i were to try a distillation i would

1 make a strong solution of naoh and water

2 mix just enough of the solution into my mhrb to create a very thick paste

3 put this paste in a wide flat clean pan over low heat to evap the water (water would prevent it from going too much past the 212°F mark)

4 once the solution was a bone dry cake in the pan i would put a glass baking dish over the rim of the pan as a lid and put some ice in the dish (in the dish NOT in the pan) to chill any evaporated dmt below the melting point (the water was evaporated to prevent condensation of water also)

5 carefully monitor the temp of the pan and try to keep it around 330-350°F so that the basified dmt becomes vapor and slowly condences on the cold glass above the pan

6 after about an hour of this i would remove the baking dish and empty the ice let the crystals completely solitify at room temp for another hour then attack the bottom of that dish with my trusty razorblade

never tried this before but i dont see why it wouldnt work and if it does work it would make for an easy 3 hour solvent free extraction -i have seen similar effects on glass pipes - my only question would be the yield but that shouldnt be too much of a problem due to the low airflow between the lid and pan the only thing the dmt could stick to would be the cold glass above the pan
