So I followed 69Ron's procedure and everything went as expected - the calcium hydroxide mixed with small amounts of water and powdered San Pedro produced the ammonia smell and then I added the d-limo, soaked overnight, it turned the expected greeny/yellowy, filtered it through coffee filters, added the vinegar, easily separated them, the vinegar remained clear the d-limo retained its color, and then I left the vinegar to evaporate. This is what I ended up with:

I'm guessing perhaps my vinegar wasn't strong enough to draw out the alkaloids? I have a feeling it would have been around 4% but I thought adding slightly more would compensate. Does this result look consistent with that? I did three pulls each on two different soaks of d-limo and all ended up like this.

Or perhaps too much calcium hydroxide passed through the coffee filter and into the vinegar, and this is its residue? It smells pretty terrible, and not like vinegar anymore. I have just done two pulls with carbonated water to see if that effects anything, I've got them evaporating now, but I'm not too hopeful. Also, this stuff is like the film/skin you get on the top of soups or whatever, not at all powdery.

Thanks for any advice,

Okay, scratch that not at all powdery comment above. I scraped some of it up and it is pale yellow, and quite waxy and almost fibrous. I probably should have done that before making this thread, it just looks nothing like the other photos of evaporated vinegar I've seen. But the scraped up powder doesn't look so wrong... Here's a photo, sorry for the crappy quality. Am I looking good?

i think it is unlikely to get a powdery product from a vinegar evap on the first go round. if you want really fine powder, then after your d-limo pulls instead of adding vinegar, add FASI dropwise slowly over time until no more clouding forms. this will cause mesc fumarate to crash out as fine white powder or crystal.

scrap it up and weigh it. dont forget pulls 3-4.

I wish I had a better camera... The stuff clumps together and is pale yellow with a waxy sheen. That is sort of what I expected, but the evaporated stuff prior to scraping looked nothing like it. But I have ended up with some waxy material, so 100mg is going in my coffee right now, and I'll see what happens.

I can report that it is active at the 175mg I took Laughing . Unfortunately there was a hint of orange taste showing through my coffee... Will probably do a MEK wash before I try larger amounts as the d-limo I used was called 'citrus turpentine' and has a Hazardous Class 3 poison warning on it. Although it is pure, so who knows. Good vibes all round from this dose, though. I feel warm all over and everything looks beautiful. Also my mouth keeps twitching into a grin and I lose track of time. Will probably smoke a joint soon, as that always seems to work well with San Pedro. Before knowing what the carbonated water yields I have 1200mg and that is off 65 grams of cactus powder.

It looks quite good for a vinegar pull. Before I used Hcl most of the times I had those greesy dark orange vinegar pulls.
