The q21q21 Jimjam Tek #1 is designed to be able to be completed in several hours. I was wondering what steps could or should be extended over several days to increase efficiency if one is not in a hurry? The initial step of adding vinegar? The second step after adding lime? Each pull, when the limonene is mixed into the soup?

Much appreciation for any insights from the chemists out there.

Good quality Syrian rue (Peganum harmala) for an incredible price!

Vinegar soak can go for a week, even.

Once it's based, you can do a pull a day.

Be gentle with the limo, it likes to form emulsions.

SWIM can't comment on the efficiency of each pull, but SWIM did discover that if you use the thick oatmeal consistency you will lose solvent (as the tek warns), but if you let the mixture sit there for another day or two, the mixture dries out and a lot of that lost solvent suddenly jumps out and makes itself available again. If you keep rewetting to maintain consistency (not sure if this is even necessary, though, at this point) then on your last pull you should consider letting it dry out rather than just pitching it so you can recover as much solvent as possible. Not sure if that is much help as you'd probably figure that out yourself, but thought I'd mention SWIM's experience, anyway. BTW SWIM has been using Pure Citrus from Home Depot and not straight d-limonene. SWIM got all excited after his first pull because the vinegar got all cloudy... thought the clouds were goodies but turns out they were just microbubbles Sad

House, thanks for the timing advice.

Ovidroid, thanks for the dry-out advice. I lose a lot of solvent and did not know of your technique. Just to be clear, I do a pull and pour off as much solvent as possible, then let the remaining mud-mush sit and in a few days it will dry a bit and some of the absorbed solvent will re-migrate to the surface, which I can then pour off for a final pull?

Hello Emptyhand,

I have discovered a few tricks for reclaiming solvent.

1.Add more lime, it seems to dry the mix thus forcing the solvent out. On my friends first extraction he poured of 50ml of a 150ml pull and was disapointed he had lost so much, i told him to add lime and it gave up most of the other 100ml.

2.I also like to shake the pan i mix in, i sit on the carpet and get the pan, with a lid on, and shake it back and forth on the floor as fast as possible, this seems to seperate the solvent from the mix.

Im guessing that Q21Q21 has tried to obtain the greatest yield possible and he probably wrote up the most effective method he found.

what kind of yield do you normally get? what yield are you hoping to get? My best yield was 1.5g from 100g of MHRB, this was using the same tek as yourself

I am far from being a chemist but i hope that help.

3rdI,

Thanks for the lime advice. I will certainly try that. Because my final goal is changa I don't measure yield. I evap the vinegar-spice solution on the stove top as far as possible then pour over Caapi leaves in a petri dish and evap the remaining liquid in a food dehydrator. For calculating the changa ratio I "assume" 1% yield but I actually rely more on subjective effect.

my final goal is also changa, you should get some scales, there cheap and its much easier to work out precise dosages, but i guess its horses for courses. If you find anymore useful tips let us know.
