Thanks for the info. Just to be absolutely sure of what you're saying, is this correct?
1. Pull solvent from base solution (leaving naphtha mix) and pour into sep funnel
2. Prepare the carbonate with 30mL of water and simply pour into the funnel quickly?
3. Separate the layers and repeat 2x
I'm sure the answer to this will be obvious too when SWIM gets there, but upon separation which layer is the naphtha which will need to be kept?
And now that I'm on the subject, when allowing the NaOH/naphtha solution to separate for a few hours after mixing, should SWIM pour the solution into the sep funnel and then allow it so sit, or have it separate in the mixing container like many TEKs suggest. It seems to me that separating the solution in the mixing container and then transferring to a sep funnel would only agitate the solution and require more time for separation again but maybe I'm crazy.
