Well SWIM has heard that petroleum ether is the same thing that naphtha, but the two has very different prices at the shop (Petroleum ether is 2x expensive)... why? He uses Petroleum ether on his STB's, is there any problem? EDIT: he also would like to know what's the best solvent.

yes in SWIM's shop there was also both.. he always chose naphtha, but dont think it would be a problem with the petroleum ether.. The important thing is to read label, see if it has any additives or impurities, and before extracting with it, making a clean evaporation test (just put in a dish and see if it evaps clean)

EDIT: he also would like to know what's the best solvent. Best solvent is up for debate. Many purpose using DCM as the best solvent, but it is harder to get and sinks instead of floating, so not the best to use with a STB. Petrolum Ether and Naptha are pretty much the same thing, all brands vary in what % of what solvent is in each. They are a mix of many different solvents. I personally like toulene for defatting, naphtha for extracting, and bestine for recrystalizing. The Spice extends life

so SWIM went to the shop today and... the girl of the shop started to make some kind of straaange questions about what did he want with the petroleum ether and said next month it sale will be controled  o Also SWIM saw that heptane and hexane had the half of the price! Can he use them as NPS at the STB without deffating?

Yeah you can use it, the reason most people don't is because hept/hexane is much more expensive than naphtha/petrolum ether. I believe it is used in the manufature of methampetamine and so is being more closely watched. If I am ever asked the reason I give is, paint thinner and a cleaner for my paint brushes. naptha and petroleum ether are very similar. they are both made up of mostly light hydrocarbons. I think naptha contains a bit more aromatic hydrocarbons while pet ether shouldn't.

SWIM read that heptane is less toxic than hexane, and he will try do recrystalliza so he though it could be better if it don't evaporate so fast. So he bough two bottles. heptane really dry the rubber of the syringe faster, even when he glued two syringes together, now he had to glue three syringes together so he'd lost his syringes. also, it really takes a little more to evaporate, than petroleum ether EDIT: not so little more to evaporate  it also takes a little more to separate from the sludge
