Burner (gas OR electric) + solvent tray = fail

Read above post.

Forget about heat when evaporating. Just wait for the fan to do the job.

Yea, it will evaporate without a fan.

Time is relative.

If you don't give a ml estimate you can't expect us to give a time estimate Pleased

With a computer fan, and the solvent in a pyrex dish > 36 square inches that should be maybe 2-3 hours...perhaps an evening/overnight if no fan is used (although it could be longer, I've only gone without a fan a few times).

Have you given any thought to freeze precipitating?

I usually do only freezing, due to the remaining DMT after evaporation being very slow of difficult to get hard, and usually the color is somewhat yellow/orange. Any tips for this?

After the freeze I take the solvent and put it in a glass dish and place that on top of a big pot and support it with some wooden skewers. Then I pour boiling water in the pot and on top of the dish I put a laptop chill pad (fan) to pull off the fumes. Worked pretty well. When the water cools off just dump and add more boiling water.

If your not sure how saturated with spice your naptha is you could evap it down to half its volume then freeze precipitate it. It's so much easier that way.

I usually only use a fan to evaporate. A hot plate does help but I've noticed I usually end up with a more yellow product when I use heat. Definitely don't heat it near any flame source though.

I'm assuming between the heat and the air the spice oxidizes somewhat. That's not necessarily a bad thing though.

Sometimes a little oxidation is nice.

Are you doing an A/B extraction, STB?

A/B with q21's tek. I've also found that it's unnecessary to pre-evaporate the naphtha with the tek. It's because I've tried to pre-evaporate after the initial freeze precip and it yielded very little.
