I would avoid defatting and go for FASA on xylene (yuck) or FASI on limonene (nomnom). defatting is a very wasteful process, unless you can distill your solvents. Fumarate precipitation bypasses the need of defatting because the alkaloids precipitate directly and the fats/oils remain dissolved in the solvent. Then after decanting/filtering your crystals, you wash them with cold dry acetone or ipa to remove limo/xylene traces and any potential excess fumaric acid, and then you convert it to freebase by crystallizing out of water with sodium carb as mentioned in BLAB.
