just curious...

has anyone ever done an A/B tek on MHRB shredded bark and then once done with the acid (vinegar) wash, thrown the leftover bark in a STB? like....maybe you didn't get it all out with A/B so the STB will extract the rest?

i have no idea. just curious. finishing up a marsolfold tek and just had the idea. i know i never get more than a 1% yield so i'm assuming i'm doing something wrong. just wondering i f i could stb the bark and get the rest out. or would it be all tannins? i know with marsofolds tek i get almost all white so maybe i can get the oxides out this way? or should i just toss it at this point?

any experienced heads know?

I did this with a batch of bark that a friend gave me (he got the stuff from a less-than-reputable source). The consistency/color of the bark was off and an A/B on one pound yielded very low. As a result I STB'd the already cooked bark and did another extraction...which resulted in more spice, but nothing amazing. There was a decent amount left in the bark, especially given the woeful amount of the first extraction...but I don't know how useful this would be for good bark. I'd imagine you should at least get a little if you have enough bark.

Another way to increase your yield would be to do pulls on your A/B solution with a less-selective solvent like limonene or xylene...which you could do on your STB as well if you do that too...if you did an STB after your A/B and did naphtha and limo pulls on both batches...I can't imagine there'd be much DMT left in the bark

I have a faint recollection people did try and it yielded a bit, but im not sure.

I think if you work with shredded bark, its more likely you can get some out (specially if leaving it soaking for a while), and if you work with powdered bark and did enough boils (like, say, 4x), then only an insignificant amount of alks will still be in the plant material.

just got done with the last vinegar boil. i'm gonna throw the bark in with some lye and water and let it set for at least a day. any ideas on how much lye to add? like ratio?

i will let y'all know what comes of this, too.

If you dont mind using some extra lye, you could just go overboard with the 1:1 ratio

swim did the stb on the bark goo after an a/b. got like 500mg outta lb of bark. so...there were some goodies left over but not really sure if it was worth the trouble.
