Hello. SWIM is wondering about a product SWIM bought at a local hardware store called 'De-Solv-It Contractor's Solvent' (by Orange Sol). SWIM cannot find any ingredient info on this product except for a similar version which contains orange oils and aloe vera (household version). SWIM has been using a brand called Pure Citrus Air Freshener for SWIM's source of d-limonene, but would prefer a purer product. SWIM would love to buy 100% d-limonene online but cannot at this moment.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I guess they dont want you to know the secret ingredants Its had some dye in there probally some other surfactants also.

But its highly likely this is what your wanting.

I would advise if you had the equipment to distill a sample of that product to pure limo, if that what it is. You should note the boiling point/ all other characteristics of the liquid and compare to referecned literature. But in all fairness that could be kind of long.

It works for me, so i dont no what else i can do apart from suggest you to type in to google the brand name and MSDS sheet. But what your looking for is not even on there. Send the company an email, and make up some reason, im sure they would be happy to help. Good customer service and all.

Orange oil kind of works, but there are a lot of organic impuritys you would have to deal with later...not sure about aloe vera though.

The manufacturers put surfactants (some kind of soap) in many orange oil cleaners. If the directions say to mix it with water before using it to clean something, it probably has a surfactant added. Pure orange oil does not mix with water so the makers add surfactants to allow it mix with water for use as a cleaner. If it says use it straight out of the jug for cleaning, it may be OK. If it mixes with water, it's not OK.

SWIM did a pull not too long ago and the result was a milky concoction (the solvent). The vinegar and water ended up looking like a middle ground between milky and salt water. Could this be some sort of soap in the original solvent? It never looked milky when SWIM used the Pure Citrus Air Freshener. (To begin with, the solvent was a clear orange. After the pull, it was the color of milk, or horchata.)

Also, when the end product was ready to smoke, it was a much drier, crystallier consistancy. (also noted, it had a much higher yield.) The jimjam SWIM had made with the pure citrus air freshener had looked just like the photo, kind of a dark reddish, thick syrup. SWIM is trying to find a cheap camera so I can post some photos for her.

You do NOT want limonene with surfactants! It makes the polar and non polar layer mix

theoretically, if one had the proper equipment would they be able to distill the limonine (and other relavent solvents) using desolvit as a source?

It's a bit dangerous to distill solvents. You need good equipment to do it safely. Distilling is tedious but may separate surfactants just fine.

Why not just purchase some 100% limonene? If you don't care to purchase via internet, I think "Pure Citrus" air freshener works. You can find it in your grocery store. It has no surfactants. Worst case, you may need to wash it with water before use. It is made of 100% orange oil. I have not tried this product but it seems useful and I think some people have used it with success. Anyone experienced with this product care to comment?
