Swim got a pull that preciptated into a powder at the bottom of a jar. Never got powder so he figures it might have leftover sodium carbonate in it.

is sodium carbonate soluble in naptha? Is there a method tha can be used to remove any residual left in the mix? really dont trust powder....

I dont understand, can you explain better?

Naphtha pull? How many ml per how much mimosa? Is this the first pull? Did you separate it from the basified mix? Did you stick in the freezer? Was it evaporating?

Sodium carb is definitely not soluble in naphtha.. Unless you explain better I dont know, could be just dmt that crystallized into fine powder. Evap all solvent and re-x, sodium carb should not dissolve in naphtha at all.. And/or do a sodium carb wash on solvent. Dont throw anything away.

OP and I are aquainted with SWIM.

STB, 75 powder, 75 base, 600ml water, 120ml nap. Sat for 15hr at 100F. First pull was reddish brown...maybe 60ml - washed with 10cc of sodium carb mix (mix was 4g to 30cc water...to much, SWIM knows). The nap cleared up nicely to a yellow color but was slighly milky before freezing. Within 30 min of freeze much precipitation. 10 hours after freeze, some xtal but mostly a powder like subtance in the bottom of the container. SWIM assumes just tiny spice but was curious if sodium carb got into mixture. If you're saying that it is not soluable in nap, it must be spice. Any way to tell for sure? SWIM plans on donig re-ex once dry.

Peace.

It should be spice.. If after its retrieved, you re-x, whatever sodium carb excess that is theoretically there will not dissolve in the solvent, so you'll know if its spice or not.

Very cool. That makes SWIM feel better. Smile SWIM was concerned that the sodium carb would just keep dissolving into liquid.
Thanks again for the prompt response!

Peace.

Touch it and see if it's waxy. My spice sometimes looks like powder. Like some washing machine detergent.

swim had leftover sodium carbonate left over i his spice once. When freeze precip was performed the SC coated the top half of the glass container like a thin layer of paint. the spice precipitated to the bottom like normal. swim peeled the suspected SC which game off in whole thin pieces. When he tasted it there was a soapy flavor. it was discarded and the spce was re-x'd.

Why would you taste some unknown layer in a solvent and discard from the taste test??? What if it was some other nasty impurity from your solvent or god knows what? Or what if there was some alkaloids there trapped between whatever else that was?

The way to tell if a product is sodium carb or dmt is solubility. Sodium carb will not dissolve in non-polar solvent, so just do a re-x (with a wash while its dissolved if you want). Or do a mini a/b by redissolving re-basing and re-extracting. Or etc.. This way you dont lose anything, just clean up whatever isnt clean.

Well it had no spice taste at all and I really wasnt interested in any alks. th glass container was a shot glass so we arent talking large amounts here.

This was the only time i ever ran into this over the course of many extravtions and re-extractions. swim is on a quest for pure product lately.
