A friend of mine has followed 69ron tek as best he could. there is 75g of dried Bridgesli cactus that was cut, dried , and powdered outer green flesh.
He amended the tek to the right ratio: 75g of dried cacti powder, 225mls of water, 18.75g of pickling lime (correct me if im wrong with these quantities)
Once mixed the lime and cacti powder, then added and mixed the water so the cacti mix was wet but not watery. The mix got wet up to the 150ml mark and was worried about added the remaining 75ml of water but decided to follow tek exactly.
The result now is that the cacti mix and the d limonene added is to watery for the d limonene to be decanted away for salting with the vinegar.
Assunption is that to much water was added initially , or 1the powder was not fully dry (made sure the cacti pieces that had been drying in the oven on low heat were cracker dry before putting in the coffee grinder), or to much d limonene was added after let cacti mix and water sit for 24 hours.(Put in 300mls of d limonene instead of 225mls but this shouldnt effect the water content)
Is there a way to fix this excess water problem or should he discard and start again? Is it possible to absorb some of the water somehow while the d limonene is still in there? Have heard epsons salts may help with water absorbtion , if so what is the exact process to dry them in the oven ? is it safe to dry the epson salts in a normal house oven?

i'd think a desiccant would work. It may be a pain to mix in...but it should get some of the water bound up and out of the way. All posts written by Madcap should be regarded as fiction.

You can make some sodium carbonate by putting baking soda in the over at 400f for an hour, and add it into the mix 1 spoon at a time while mixing. This is extremely effective for breaking cactus limtek goop. The ph will rise a bit so be careful.

Thankyou in advance Home oven works fine to dry epsom salts (couple hours at 400 degrees)or you can go buy damp rid (calcium chloride). Just mix it in it should pull water. Ok will dry the desicant first in the oven(either epson salts or baking soda) in a glass pyrex dish
The ph at the moment is about 10.5 so i will keep a eye on it

That worked pretty well
I added 1 table spoon at a time of sodium carbonate while stirring with electric mixer and all up used about 4 tablespoons
The d-limonene has now seperated nicely and I will salt it out tonight after i let it sit for a while.
I tested the PH of the cacti/pick lime/water/dlimo mix and now sodium carbonate and its risen a bit to 11. The actual seperated d limonene is about 8 according to the ph papers.
Are these Ph measurements ok?

that sounds fine... the only thing to be careful is container type, spillage, and so on because adding soda carb to lime creates lye, which is much more corrosive. I'm glad it worked for ya

Thanks for letting me know that its actually lye now. Does this mean that now its not food safe? Friend is using 1 litre glass french press and stainless steel utensils

He Poured d limonene through a paper coffee filter and then added 20mls of vinegar to in a sep funnell. Gave it a good shake for about 20 seconds and think's there is a emulsion problem?
The vinegar appears to be very cloudy and is not clearing after waiting a few minutes.
Any ideas on how to clear it up before evaporating and a way to avoid it for next pull?
