Hey everybody,

A good friend of mine just finished his second extraction. His first and second extractions each used about a half kilo of MHRB (using the BLAB) and the first one finished with jimjam. The first time around, he used the vinegar method, and he was not excited to not have a powder to handle.

This time, he used the Fumaric Acid Saturated Water route of the BLAB, and found long shard-like beautiful clear/white crystals waiting at the bottom of his dish after a few days in the fridge. He separated the liquid and dried/powdered the crystals and now he is concerned... He weighed out his final product (which is now a very clean looking white powder) and had a final mass of somewhere around 12.4 grams.

Now originally I was expecting somewhere around 3-6 grams as I'm relatively new and I knew that was a good range. But 12?

Does that make sense? Or is there some huge amount of contamination from sodium carbonate or something else? I want to be excited for such yields, but I can't help but being skeptical...

Thanks!

This happened to me once, how long did you wait to weigh the product? It may need to dry out more.

It's probably excess fumaric acid. You need to do some dry acetone washes.
Dry acetone = no water in it. Your spice fumarates are water soluble, but not soluble in acetone.

When you use dry acetone for the washes, it will only pick up the excess fumaric acid and maybe some plant fats and oils.

Here is how to get dry acetone.

Thanks for your responses guys,

@Slayed, I'm pretty sure it's all dried out, but regardless, I can't imagine that there could be enough water to increase my yields to almost double what I was expecting

@Melodic Catastrophe, Thanks very much, that's very helpful. At this point though, I already have freebase DMT (I added the sodium carbonate as well), and so I'm thinking that a lot of my contamination could be sodium carbonate? Is that likely? I have a hard time imagining there's still that much fumaric acid, as the sodium carbonate precipitation reaction allowed me to pour off the remaining water, which I would imagine dissolved most remaining fumaric acid. Is that reasonable? Or is fumaric acid usually a pretty consistent contaminant?

Also, the cold temperature of the water could explain why so much of the sodium carbonate crystallized out with the DMT.

What if I were to use dry acetone to dissolve all of the DMT (a pull, rather than a wash), which should not dissolve the sodium carbonate, but will dissolve the freebase DMT, and then evap the acetone?

I'm just brainstorming here.

@DoctorMantus, No I muffed up and forgot to take pictures Sad I could take some at this point, but all that you'd see is white powder haha.

Yes, drying and then pulling with acetone will work better than washing with water. I'm not sure about the water solubility of sodium fumarate, I would guess that it would dissolve slowly, like fumaric acid, but being a salt it shouldn't be soluble in dry acetone at all.
