Hello everyone, SWIM recently decided to try his first extraction and hopefully my first DMT breakthrough. SWIM have been using psychedelics for a few years now and am very interested in broadening his horizons. Previous to this SWIM grew sclerotia and mazatapec mushrooms with much success. Since it is his first extraction with MHRB SWIM was hoping to use a rather simple and straightforward tek. Originally SWIM was planning to use the LazyMan tek but after further reading SWIM has come across alot of debate over it's merit.
The supplies SWIM currently has are:
1.1 pounds of MHRB powder from celestialsource
1 pound of pure lye
A flat glass baking dish
1 gallon jug of distilled water
A few quart mason jars (left over from shroom grow, wasn't planning on using for extraction)
Tomorrow SWIM plans on picking up A quart or 2 of Klean-Strip VM & P napatha.

Since I'm a complete novice to this field I was hoping to get some general advice from those with much more knowledge and wisdom than me. Should SWIM bother trying the LazyMan tek, if not what tek would you reccomend?
The only requisites SWIM has are:
*Must be evaporation
*beginner friendly
*Preferably STB but might reconsider if it's a serious necessity for some reason

Thank you all in advance for your time and help, I can assure its very much appreciated.

I'd recommend using Noman's Tek for a first time extraction.

Here's a great pictorial that shows the process step by step. It's the same pictorial I used for my first extraction.

After you add the solvent, just make sure to roll the container and let it separate at least 3 times before pulling the solvent out. You'll usually get better yields with each pull by doing it like that.

Welcome to the Nexus and good luck!

I'm new to this hobby as well, but I have a couple tips for you that I gleaned from extensive reading.

1) don't do an ammonia wash.
2) don't bother with filters.
3) I used 1g:6ml:1g ratio of bark:H2O:NaOH. That amount of water gave a great consistency and emulsion resistance with shredded bark. I'm not saying that amount of water is ideal for yields or ease of work...but it worked for me.
4) Powdered bark requires more water, they say.
5) I have no experience with "quick" pulls. I just do ~24hr each. If you don't get good yield, soak longer.
6) Kosher salt (non-iodized for whatever reason) can help break emulsions. So can warm water baths and time.
7) Since you're evaporating, you can't recycle your solvent.
8. Once you've collected a bunch of material from evaporation, do a naphtha or bestine cleanup on your spice. Naphtha works good, bestine (heptane) is said to work great. You will lose some weight because of the yellow gunky stuff you'll remove that way, but clean spice is nice! (Dry the yellow gunk and use that too, it's still active)
9) Weigh your yield after cleanup to see where you are in the extraction. They say 1% is in the ballpark.
10) Quickly learn the smell of burnt spice when you first smoke. Seek to avoid that in the future and begin enjoying the subtle flavor.
11) I don't know from experience, but I can only imagine that evaporating solvent and collecting the extract will taste way "dirtier" than clean spice. Cleaning up your product with a tiny amount of hot solvent is quick and easy!

I would advice you to read up on different teks and topics here on the forum for about two weeks before doing any extraction. This is to make you understand the process of extracting Dmt. Ask yourself questions like "Why do I need to basify or acidify? What does it do to the bark that makes naphta able to get the Dmt out?" etc.

By understanding the process my first extracion went perfectly (apart from clumsy fingers, I spilled out half the batch...).

Also, read up about health and safety. Dangerous chemicals are, logically, dangerous. I use only Acetic acid and D-limonene for extractions.

Remember to be patient, it will pay off in the end. I haven't even smoked the Dmt I extracted yet, but I've got everything ready so tomorrow I'll maybe will... for the first time...

But only if the mood is right.

Good luck!

Thanks for the input Melodic, I really like this tek. I'm definitely going to use this guide instead of the lazy man tek. Btw are the containers distilled water comes in safe to use?

I completely agree, I'm going to wait till next week to do it. Hopefully reading up on the actually science behind the extraction will help in the process.

Thanks for the tips, I can't express how grateful I am for the quick responses and acceptance on this forum. You raised some good points about evaporation, I might switch to freezing if it's okay with my girlfriend (she's hesitant about having it in with the food.)

Once again I'd just like to thank everyone for the information they've contributed, I'm confident SWIM will have a good extraction if he follows your advice thoroughly. Another question I have is in regards to napatha, my local hardware store has 2 types. Do you guys prefer
VM & P With Mineral Spirits
or
Nafta VM & P

Thanks for the response, yeah I'm going to exchange it for the napatha on monday. I got the mineral one by accident. Confused
