Hello Nexians!

We really need your help. As you see in this thread, many members are worried because there is an influx of new members who do not make even a little bit of effort to research before making basic questions that have been asked over and over again and are easy to find. This is making the quality of the forum go down and we need to prevent this.

This thread is the place where all of you can help us mods by suggesting threads that should be merged/removed, pointing out questions that have been asked many times, which we can move elsewhere and/or add to the FAQ.

Any other suggestion or questions you might have regarding the Nexus clean up, do post here.

Thank you

Information must be clearly visible regarding any question one could possibly have regarding extraction, dosage, use and psychology!
New members MUST read this information before posting.
Before they can post, they are reminded by a special message, containing links to all the information they could possibly need.

Rating system
If a new member posts a question which is already answered by a FAQ or stickied thread, full members can vote against this thread.
5 votes against a thread or a post results in a warning of the new member. (he should get reminded of reading first / posting in a more intelligent way)
If he does post in a bad manner again, 3 negative ratings result in ERASE of his thread or post (no warning)!

10 bad ratings will warn the new member of possible consequences regarding his permission to post
15 bad ratings will result in a permanent ban and will result in deletion of all his traces!

Ratings can be used also for promotion issues. (certain amount of good ratings result in full membership).

I'd like to see all noob question threads deleted.
Including all posts which are not informative nor fun nor useful!

Like to have:
new styles, better search function, new chat functions. Name change function would be nice - we could limit the amount of changes available!

Nice idea, endlessness.

Mmmm... I don't know how are we supposed to help categorize the threads so mods can merge them, but maybe it would be a nice idea that the volunteers post the "main tags" and then a list of such threads. For example:

Storing DMT

https://www.dmt-nexus.me...aspx?g=posts&t=14369

https://www.dmt-nexus.me...aspx?g=posts&t=13757

https://www.dmt-nexus.me...aspx?g=posts&t=14255

https://www.dmt-nexus.me...aspx?g=posts&t=12982

https://www.dmt-nexus.me...aspx?g=posts&t=10690

https://www.dmt-nexus.me....aspx?g=posts&t=9698

https://www.dmt-nexus.me....aspx?g=posts&t=5566

"Wiki FAQ Official threads"

https://www.dmt-nexus.me....aspx?g=posts&t=4482

https://www.dmt-nexus.me....aspx?g=posts&t=4867

Then the mods could decide which to merge and how so.

My suggestions:

• The mods should have the authority to change threads names if considered necessary for the betterment of the forum organization.
i.e. A thread called "plz Halp!" that asks for help about DMT recrystallization should be renamed: "DMT recrystallization help". Etc.

So I guess there is a lot of job in that area...

Anyway... Later I'll try to find more repeated / related threads so Mods can decide if they should be merged. You can count with me here.

Peace.

The search function definitely needs to be improved. i was just trying to search for all of my previous posts, so that i may post unneeded threads here, but the search function is limited to only a certain number of posts. It is not an exhaustive search since it tends to skip the older posts for some reason, unless the key words are accurately specified. So this needs some work.
As for the chat functions, someone on Nexus Chat mentioned that having a drawing tool for the Chat would be a really fun, and helpful function..

Just two seconds peek into my favourite subforum "Cacti" revealed that even older members cluttering the forum.

Why isn`t this question................................------>here ??? Wut?

If you wanna me I can simply reply by words `this thread` into every thread in Cacti subforum which are valuable for ILPT. This way they will be all resurected ant they will fill up first 5 pages.

Or every thread with more then 5 pages should be made sticky.

Report every double thread seems like a hard work as there are so many of them Crying or very sad

I'm strongly against a voting system and every idea that makes one feel unappreciated. Voting creates unneccesary hierarchy. The best idea i've heard is the delayed signup. Those who forget about the nexus after a few weeks won't be a loss propably. Could be wrong though...

Voting system shouldn't be visible to the members in general, only Mods should be able to see this!

Even if it would be visible to anybody, it would raise the standart for postings.
But I don't think visibility for everyone is a good idea.

I share this sentiment. It also has the drawback of others spending more time reviewing and policing (too strong a word, but ...).

Gartner (prominent IT analyst firm) points toward social and cultural trends with the notion of the new generation of 'digital natives'. Content creators provide the value for sites like this and as we move into the future content authors will: 1) move more freely 2) follow unique user-centric models as they arise and 3) will be easily put off by anything negative to a user-centric model.

I'm wondering if there is a way to positively encourage behavior initially rather than correct errors. Perhaps there are forum tools that can assist. YAF (this forum technology) plugins or such.

For example, a automatic search during post of a new thread might pop up a suggestion window with relevant threads for consideration or such - allowing the poster to take an action other than starting a new redundant thread.

I'll do some research.

Are members with IT knowledge that may suggest positive technical or best-practice social approaches to reducing redundancy? ... or the effect of redundancy?

Regarding information, as said already, new members now receive a message that links them to the important threads and places such as WIKI, FAQ, attitude and health and safety section, etc.

As for the rating system, Im not sure I agree with it, also like obliguhl says. I think it starts making people too based on opinion of others, which might actually backfire in terms of posts quality . But we will consider the suggestion and discuss it.

Better search function I completely agree, I would say its a priority, but it might take a lot of programing and traveler is a very busy person. But we will definitely talk to him about it. Chat functions isnt really related to nexus clean up, but since you mentioned it, which new chat functions?

Name change function is tricky because it makes it harder for mods to follow who is who (and therefore a troubling member for example might get away because of changing his name)

Thank you for the input!

Excellent clouds! Thank you very much! Your ideas are also great and I totally agree that thread titles should accurately portray the content and not just be a call out for others to read it. I have already done this a few times, so indeed whenever you guys notice a thread with a thread title that doesnt show whats inside the post, please do note here and we will change

Again, thanks a lot for the help, its very much appreciated, and whatever you do post here again in the future is of great value!

All those promotion requesting threads have been merged here, and I added a moderator edit in the first post, quoting part of the new welcome message, that explains a bit about the nursery and tells people not to keep requesting/begging for full membership

I also deleted your own threads since they indeed didnt contain many other useful posts (I wouldnt have deleted if there was any valuable post from somebody else because this would be unethical)

The search function I agree, and explained above in my answer to mr dmt about it. As for the drawing tool, as I said to mr dmt, its not really about a nexus clean up but this will be talked with trav about. He is very busy and I dont know how much programming this takes, but it will be considered. I think right now we should focus on new member/clean up related things.

Thank you very very much for your help!

Those threads were merged, thank you!

I dont know if you bumping threads without adding anything specific to the thread is the best way of doing this (imagine if each member did the same). But what you can do is link those threads you find of value here, and we can consider making them stickies!

Reporting every double thread is indeed immense work, but thats why we dont expect you to do this all by yourself at once. But if once in a while you notice a double thread and post here, slowly we will clean up this forum and keep it as amazing as ever. Thats why I posted this thread here, because with the help of many members we can get a big job done much more effectively.

What do you mean with 'extra', isnt that the main BBB thread?

And that other thread, yes very basic question, but its not repeated AFAIK.. What do you think should be done? Removed altogether, put somewhere else, or what do you suggest is the best idea for that thread?

Your help is much appreciated! keep them coming if you ever notice anything else Smile

I dont know what the new people on the forum meet when they are first given the green light but I suggest
that before they can click on really anything as new members they are met with
a screen that tells them dos and donts on the forum, scrolling down the page to the bottom
one could add like a box they have to check (I have read the rules for posting in the forum...) before they can log in.

Members who post extraction teks should update them if improvements are discovered.
Now i certainly do not complain, i rather thank every single one that makes the effort to post such valuable knowledge.
But i think everone benefits from a complete tek, in a sense that you don't have to search your way through the tek for a small but important detail. I do encourage everyone to take the time to read through the entire thread since it is also part of the learning process.
For example: 69Rons tek in the wiki mentions the MEK wash, what it is not mentioned though is that this step often results in a big mess. This could be added in the wiki tek for instance-->result: less questions from noobs
So maybe if the mods could add important information or notes to the teks to make them complete, with pro and cons for example.
This is just a tought so please react, thanks...

This would be especially bad because newcomers would be trained to follow a certain order..then, after a while, we have a forum of people who are trying to guess whats necessary to appease the management. Do you know sites like reddit? This is a good example how rating user content can turn a site into shit. People are now creating tons of content around stupid memes, just to collect the reward from the community by upvotes ...it's a giant circle jerk and nothing but ego stupidity.

This is especially bad in a forum like this where we try to transform us and others through action. More traps just lead to more casualtys and then someday the nexus is the shroomery (no offense, tons of good information there but it just doesnt have the spirit)

These are two ideas to consider, a voting system that the results are only shown to mods, and/or a rating system for nursery only. There might still be disadvantages or issues (as obliguhl just posted), but still we should think about it. Will keep this in mind and discuss with other mods and the traveler, thanks for the suggestions

Interesting post! Technology might indeed be of help. If there is some sort of plugin or as your example, a function that shows possible relevant threads before a new thread is made, might help with detering repeated postings. The only issue I see is that I dont know how easy it is to implement such changes. The Traveler is our programming wizard, but a busy man and im sure his to-do list is not a small one, so we will have to wait for his feedback to see what he thinks of such changes. In theory I find it very good! Thanks for the suggestions!

Also good points! I think I had suggested to ron in a thread to add a warning on the MEK washing which indeed seems to cause problems to a few people. The problem is, many times the teks are added to the wiki by other members that are not the ones responsible for the tek, and for some reason people feel inhibited to edit/work in the wiki. But if you guys point out either in different tek threads or in this thread here, then we can edit the suggestions in the wiki (or you can do it yourselves there, its open to all members, just make a wiki account). I will add a disclaimer about the MEK wash as you suggested. If there are other necessary tek updates you know or come across in the future, do let us know. Thank you!

Yes, as I said before, all new members receive a welcome message now. Here's what the message contains:

Quote:
Welcome to the Nexus!

Before you start posting, we highly recommend you to check a few of our very important information resources.

1- Attitude Section - Instead of rules, we at the nexus preffer that people follow a certain attitude, which is specified in this section. It is ESSENTIAL that you take your time to read it, because disrespecting the community attitude will disrupt our balance and can result in suspension of your account.

2- Health and Safety - DMT and psychedelic safety information, health and integration tips written by professionals and experienced members are collected in this section. We highly recommend to read it!

3- FAQ - In this section have added (and continue to add) the most frequently asked questions. Before posting a question read it as your question might have been answered already! For example if you want to research extraction methods but dont know where to start, read here and then read a few of the extraction teks in the WIKI.

4- New members posting limits - To prevent influx of badly intended members, new members are restricted to posting in the nursery area until they get promoted, which is usually just a matter of short time and a few genuine posts. Be patient, do not constantly ask for being promoted, it will happen! Remember, when promotion happens, you wont receive any message. You can notice you have been promoted by looking at the left side of your posts, just below your avatar. If there is a seedling icon, you are still in the nursery. Once this icon dissapears, you have been promoted.

5- Wiki - With this collaborative work tool we add a lot of information such as extraction and conversion teks of all kinds, botanical and chemistry information, alkaloid solubility, psychedelic glossary, etc. Explore it!

6- Search function - A lot of discussions have been had already. Before posting a question, if it hasnt been answered in the FAQ, use the search function and feel free to revive old interesting threads if you have a relevant comment or question to make.

Enjoy!

and Obliguhl posted in this other thread:

obliguhl wrote:

good idea.. But the problem is this might lead normal members into forgetting about the nursery, so maybe even better: to add two "recent threads", one on top for normal threads and one below for nursery threads. What do you think?

Interesting post! Technology might indeed be of help. If there is some sort of plugin or as your example, a function that shows possible relevant threads before a new thread is made, might help with detering repeated postings.

The shroomery got this system..it would remember new members to search and check for relevant threads before posting. I think you need 20 postings or so before that message gets removed and you can post freely.

As for the nursery getting visibility problems...that crossed my mind and splitting the relevant thread box would possibly solve it.

Or what about only showing intro essays, or showing every nursery thread only once ?
No that wouldnt be fair ...there are propably a lot of people trying to follow nursery threads.
