I was just wondering if ether would be an acceptable NPsolvent for mescaline extractions? I can't get Xylene

Good quality Syrian rue (Peganum harmala) for an incredible price!

Mescaline is poorly soluble in ether (Merck index). Better solvents are methanol, ethanol, water, toluene, or even d-limonene. It depends on the procedure: if you are extracting with a soxhlet, making a tea, it varies.

ether is more for recrystallization. toluene would be best, or xylene. limonene is an acceptable substitute

According to Merck index:

Quote:
Freebase: Moderately sol in water; sol in alcohol, chloroform, benzene. Practically insol in ether, petr ether.
HCl: Sol in water, alcohol.

The only form that appears to be soluble in ether is N-Benzoylmescaline.
