Hi all, i just noticed a couple song texts that resonate alot of me and thought to myself it'd be nice to share em. Theres some specific value to them i really enjoy.

Soen - Sincere (2023)

Is it us or them?

See the light they lit for us all
Just to show how perfect we are
'Cause we are slaves of these modern times
Where we all demand to be stars
They're feeding us to the hounds

Time goes fast and life moves away
There's no time to turn it around
And everyone who's born in our time
Is programmed to take up their part
They're keeping us underground

You wanna be someone with self-respect
For the "likes" you chase, they don't mean anything
You wanna feel something that is sincere
And the words you'll say will be the spear
That strikes the lies they're telling us are the rules

Play your role in this modern farce
Feed your thirst for stardom and pride
But be aware the truth won't erase
And you are the seeds that you plant
In shallowness we all drown

Are you here? Are you real?
Do you reflect on the water?
And you pretend that you matter
Setting a price on your thoughts

Is it life, to conceal genuine value of others?
Selling your heart for a dollar?
Wearing your greed as a crown?

You wanna be someone with self-respect
For the "likes" you chase, they don't mean anything
You wanna feel something that is sincere
And the words you'll say will be the spear
That strikes the lies they're telling us are the rules

Marian Hill - Down (2016)

Didn′t even really wanna go
But if you get me out, you get a show
There's so many bodies on the floor
So, baby we should go and add some more

Are you down, d-d-down, d-d-down, d-d-down
Down, down?
Down, d-d-down, d-d-down, d-d-down
Down, down?

Everywhere I look are peoples′ hands
Thrown up in the air to help them dance
Come on, baby, catch me if you can
I know you don't have any other plans

You know we could put 'em all to shame
Now isn′t the time to play it safe
Isn′t this the reason why you came?
So, baby, don't you let it go to waste

Are you down, d-d-down, d-d-down, d-d-down
Down, down?
Down, d-d-down, d-d-down, d-d-down
Down, down?

Every single thing is feeling right
Started as a quiet Friday night
I don′t really think that we should fight this
What if we don't stop until it′s light?

Are you down, d-d-down, d-d-down, d-d-down
Down, down?
Down, d-d-down, d-d-down, d-d-down
Down, down?

Too bad he didn't highlight the financial repression schemes and its ultimate finisher, retirement. But it's a good start for The Big Doubt.

In the lyrics I don't perceive "hurt" and "pain" as physical, but more of a 'psychological' hurt. In fact I see it more as the undoing of the true human 'Self', the one we're all born with.

Working Class Hero - John Lennon (1970)

As soon as you're born, they make you feel small
By giving you no time instead of it all
'Til the pain is so big you feel nothing at all
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

They hurt you at home and they hit you at school
They hate you if you're clever and they despise a fool
'Til you're so fucking crazy you can't follow their rules
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

When they've tortured and scared you for 20 odd years
Then they expect you to pick a career
When you can't really function, you're so full of fear
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

Keep you doped with religion and sex and TV
And you think you're so clever and classless and free
But you're still fucking peasants as far as I can see
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

There's room at the top they are telling you still
But first you must learn how to smile as you kill
If you want to be like the folks on the hill
A working class hero is something to be
A working class hero is something to be

If you want to be a hero, well, just follow me
If you want to be a hero, well, just follow me

Caravan of Fools - John Prine, The Tree of Forgiveness, 2018

The dark and distant drumming
The pounding of the hooves
The silence of everything that moves
Late at night you'll see them
Decked out in shiny jewels
The coming of the caravan of fools

Like the wings of a dove
The waiter's white glove
Seems to shimmer by the light of the pool
Some dull, blinding winner
When you can't help but lose
You're running with the caravan of fools

The caravan of fools, caravan of fools
You're running with the caravan of fools

Love and devotion
Deep as any ocean
Don't play by anybody's rules
With your carousel of horses
And your unforeseen forces
You're running with the caravan of fools

Caravan of fools, caravan of fools
You're running with the caravan of fools

Empty - Ray LaMontagne

She lifts her skirt up to her knees
Walks through the garden rows
With her bare feet laughin'
I never learned to count my blessings
I choose instead to dwell in my disasters

I walk on down the hill
Through grass grown tall and brown and still
It's hard somehow to let go of my pain
On past the busted back of that old and rusted Cadillac
That sinks into this field collecting rain

Will I always feel this way?
So empty, so estranged?

Of these cut-throat busted sunsets
These cold and damp white mornings I have grown weary
If through my cracked and dusty dime store lips
I spoke these words out loud
Would no one hear me?

Lay your blouse across the chair
Let fall the flowers from your hair
And kiss me with that country mouth so plain
Outside the rain is tapping on the leaves
To me, it sounds like they're applauding us
The quiet love we've made

Will I always feel this way?
So empty, so estranged?

Well, I looked my demons in the eyes
Lay bare my chest, said, "Do your best to destroy me"
See, I've been to hell and back so many times
I must admit you kinda bore me

There's a lot of things that can kill a man
There's a lot of ways to die
Yes, and some already did and walk beside me
There's a lot of things I don't understand
But so many people lie
It's the hurt I hide that fuels the fire inside me

Will I always feel this way?
So empty, so estranged?

I'm picking songs that play the hidden strings inside me. Provided you don't mind.
