Movies I Like:
A Man From Earth - If you haven't seen this, you have to watch it. 87 minutes of brilliant conversation in one room.
American History X
Blow
Butterfly Effect
Donnie Darko
Boondock Saints
Dogma
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Fight Club
Kickboxer 2
Primer - Small budget film about time travel. (Budget was $7000). Very interesting take on time travel.
Requiem For A Dream - Similar to trainspotting but better in my opinion.
Trainspotting
The Truman Show
Twelve Monkeys
V for Vendetta

I think the other movies I didn't write a description for are better known so there was no need. Also I would REALLY recommend the 3 movies that I described.
Beware of the man who works hard to learn something, learns it, and finds himself no wiser than before. He is full of murderous resentment of people who are ignorant without having come by their ignorance the hard way. - Bokonon

To fathom Hell or soar angelic, just take a pinch of psychedelic. - Humphry Osmond in a poetic exchange with Aldous Huxley

Anything by Fellini (8 1/2, La Strada, Nights of Cabiria, Juliet of the Spirits in particular - but they are all just fucking great...)
The Seventh Seal (and a bunch of other Bergman films - Cries and Whispers, Winter Light, Through a Glass Darkly, The Silence, Persona, Shame - the list goes on and on...)
The Hustler (hands down the coolest anti-hero ever...)
Come and See (the best war movie you've probably never heard of...)
Apocalypse Now (the best war movie you almost certainly have...)
The Godfather I & II (for obvious reasons...)
Miller's Crossing & Barton Fink (love the Coen brothers all around, but those two are my faves...)
Raging Bull (name a better boxing flick...)
Woman in the Dunes (awesome, beautiful movie...)
Modern Times (perfect in every way...)
Seven Samurai
Ikiru
Sunset Boulevard
The Killing
The Apartment
Double Indemnity
Pulp Fiction
Resevoir Dogs
Glengarry Glen Ross
The Piano Teacher
Big Night

i've had a quick read through here and there are some good films listed, and some others i wanna check out.

sorry if i missed it in someone elses post but i cannot recomend enough: Adaptation.

the 'sequel' to "being john malkovich" (which i thought was an average film).

but adaptation is one...crazy film. the book featured in it is real.

i post on behalf of a good friend.

Man from Earth is a GREAT movie. I was thoroughly intrigued the whole time. I think has really was what he said he was.

Charlie Kaufman's an excellent screenwriter. My favorite of his is "Eternal Sunshine," but "Adaptation" is quite good and has a subplot that many community members would find amusing.

Which version? The only one I've liked so far is Alice, a 1988 version from Czech director Jan Svankmajer. It's the only version bizarre enough to match the book. The book has all movies beat, but I'm hoping the new one coming out is good, Tim Burton's good at strange movies.

The new alice in wonderland is a completely different story. I actually quite like the disney version. Especially the walrus and the carpenter. Smile

have you ever taken that ferry from San Francisco to Berkeley and looked back and seen that while in Berkeley, San Francisco doesn't exist?

I watched a film called 'cube 2 hypercube' recently, enjoyable!

The greatest film for me has to be 'Groundhog Day'... I wish Bill Murray was my dad lol.

Big fan of all the Richard Prior and Gene Wilder classics as well.

Just saw his directing debut, "Synecdoche, New York," by the way...possibly his best work yet.

well requiem is a great film! SPOILER: sure it seems the 'moral' at the end is that every drug user will get screwed, but you can also take it without the 'moral', and just take it that THOSE characters got screwed, and it was a well made film and it has nothing to do with you Razz

btw, a lot of great recommendations you guys gave, a lot of my favourite films that I forgot to list were already mentioned.. its good because then I know I can check the other suggested films and will probably be of my taste Smile keep them coming !

I've been wanting to watch this movie, but it seems so heavy and so much a reflection of the heartbreaking aspects of entheogen work that I haven't felt in the right mood.

Here's a short web film that I just found and can't stop watching. It's by Joss Whedon and Neil Patrick Harris is the main character.

Kontroll, so so good.

The massive labyrinthine netherworld that is the Budapest subway system provides the stunning setting for 'Kontroll,' a high-style, high-speed romantic thriller in which the lives of assorted outcasts, lovers, and dreamers intersect and collide. One handsome young hero, one mysterious maiden, and one particularly nasty killer must conduct a race against time, trains, and destiny itself in their frantic pursuit of one another.
