I have been doing research on DMT and other ways to treat depression because psych meds were never working. After taking a genomind DNA test I found out that my 5H2A receptor in my brain doesn't work right which deals with serotonin. Seeing DMT binds to the 5H2A receptor would it be safe for me or would it send me into serotonin shock syndrome? Knowing how dangerous that can be. My worry is that because of the bad 5h2a then it will basically overload my brain and send me into the syndrome. does anyone have any idea of the safety risk or level of this problem? I would like to try it and blast off but not if it's a one way ticket.

Good quality Syrian rue (Peganum harmala) for an incredible price!

Honestly Jeff, it's probably not the right place to ask such a delicate question. I dont mean to be blunt but no person aside from a highly trained medical practitioner should be answering this.

Yeah, "doesn't work right" is incredibly vague. Could mean anything. Not that the doctors would know much more than that...

I certainly wouldn't try blasting off, but you could try experimenting with a teeny tiny microdose of ayahuasca and see how you feel.

Cuz honestly, DMT is found naturally in the body anyway, I doubt a tad bit more would cause any harm.

But, I am not a doctor, and I don't know wtf "doesn't work right" means. It's possible no one does.

This is true, although it appears the OP misunderstands serotonin syndrome as well. The dangerous effects of serotonin syndrome occur from a build up of excess serotonin in the body and manifests largely through serotonin's action on the cardiovascular system. This is not the same as DMT acting on 5HT2a receptors in the brain. Some drugs (like bromodragonfly or 25B-NBOME, for example) may exert serotonergic toxicity in a similar manner to serotonin syndrome due to their extreme potency at various 5HT receptors.

While, due to a lack of further detail, it is not entirely pertinent to comment on your 'bad' serotonin receptors, jeff37312, it seems likely that the main risk you would have from DMT would be disappointment due to it having no effect as a result of said 'bad' receptors.

In my entirely un-medical opinion it would be exceedingly unlikely that a standard dose of DMT would precipitate any symptoms resembling serotonin syndrome, but I still refer you back to fink's original point.

“There is a way of manipulating matter and energy so as to produce what modern scientists call 'a field of force'. The field acts on the observer and puts him in a privileged position vis-à-vis the universe. From this position he has access to the realities which are ordinarily hidden from us by time and space, matter and energy. This is what we call the Great Work."

DMT acts on the receptors without releasing any serotonin, so this circumstance landing you into serotonin syndrome.

If the receptors "don't work," it's likely that there will be no effect since there aren't any active sites for the molecule to bind to.

I'm not a doctor either, this is just what I'm aware of based on my research.

Can you elaborate more on the receptors' disfunction?

The risk of Serotonin syndrome is low to non-existent. However, problems with that receptor could be causing psychological issues. You've likely adapted to any issues caused as you seem to be functioning well.

DMT use could throw that off. It could make those issues worse or different... or better. However, I would think that extreme caution is called for.

I echo the general consensus that you should not risk it and should work with a doctor. People on the internet would be even worse than a bad doctor giving you advice here.

I will add one thing, though. You may or may not be dead set on doing this. You're a grown up, it's on you.

If you do, go with that "extreme caution" thing I said above. Don't "blast off". At least not at first. Go slow. Try to integrate. Pray to whatever you respect and cherish. Roatate your tires. All disclaimers apply.

Just to clarify, my answer was not to suggest that our members here are not among the most knowledgable and experienced DMT users on the planet. I believe they are. Only that asking for a green light for something so important causes liability issues that could have consequences.

Do you have any information on how specifically they are "not working"?
Have you ever consumed any psychedelic substance before?
