I found a very interesting read on this plant discussing a plethora of effects it has along with its toxicity. It seems that it has not been mentioned on the nexus before so I thought it is worth sharing.

The bulbs were used as arrow poison by the San community and It is well known for its usage in traditional Southern African medicine.

The paper mentions the following effects: hallucinatory, anti-depressive/anxiolytic, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer.

LD50 of B. Distacha extracts on rats was found to be between 120 and 240 mg/kg.

It seems like a plant worth researching more.
