Hi All,

About to do second ever extraction next week.
I cook in a 1l Erlenmayer flask.
If you know the shape or have ever ever seen an Erlenmayer, they are canonical in nature. One thing I found is that the pulls are soooo much easier to do if the fluid level is nearer the top, narrower part of the flask. Therefore I would like to make the basified solution up to 900ml.

My instinct tells me that the salt tek makes 700ml when finished, so I could just up all quantities by (9/7) 1.28 times the tech recipe, except for the bark, I only have 50g left at the moment.

Should this work?
TIA very much for any responses. Peace and Love!

If you do not want to dilute your mixture - which is what will happen if you increase the volume without increasing the amount of bark - instead you can use a solid object or objects to displace the appropriate amount of liquid. You would need to use compatible materials of course, as well as being careful not to break your flask by dropping, e.g., ball bearings into it!

The field acts on the observer and puts him in a privileged position vis-à-vis the universe. From this position he has access to the realities which are ordinarily hidden from us by time and space, matter and energy. This is what we call the Great Work."

Is diluting the solution an issue if it remains at the correct PH?

Thanks for the replies guys!
Hmmm, displacing is a great idea but I cant seem to think of anything that would do the trick other than maybe marbles which as you say, could potentially damage the flask, plus, unless they were tiny I don't think they wopuld fit through the neck.

@singlespeed That was my thinking and I would increase the vinergar/NaOH to suit.

Does anyone know the effect of dilution? My first thoughts is that it would increase the surface area/contact of the basal mixture with the naptha (I don't intend to increase naptha volume as more pre-evap would be required?) and therefore help pull the base into the naptha better?

Confused Confused Confused

Yes, you can do it, such small change in volume of water will not make any difference.

Perfect, thanks doubledog. I will try it on this next extraction and post the results/yield here for the record.
