Hello dear members. I'm still filling up the questionnaire. I hope this place is the right to ask.

I'm growing magic mushrooms for first time. Already starting the fructifing stage with 3 cakes in puckets with plastic bags and another 3 that haven't taken out of the glasses. I'm following the PF TEK guide. I think I need help as I'm seeing something weird in the tiny mushrooms that are fructifing. They have this white tiny hair at the bottom of the stem. And the mushrooms do not get "erected", as I've seen in pictures. Here is how it looks.

I'm affraid that its contaminated by another mushroom, like the one that I've seen in rotten food. If that's the case, please can you tell me what happened? Ive been thinking and the only mistake I could commite was not to sterilize the perlite that I used to put the cakes on (as the guide did not mention it). I only sterilized at the innoculation stage. Please tell me what to do here. There are still 3 cakes at the inoculation jars and they seem to be pretty clean and with plenty of healthy mycelium and some primordials. I don't want to commit mistakes with those 3 left cakes...

I also have doubt about the amount of indirect light that they should recieve. Is this enough light?

It comes from white lamps. Do I need indirect sunlight? I can open a window but I'm afraid of lettin in "contaminated air" as I live in a farm.

Thanks a lotfor the help.

Good quality Syrian rue (Peganum harmala) for an incredible price!

That's aerial mycelium and that's a sign of lack of FAE, not contamination. Don't worry.
You should build a SGFC and put the cakes in there. Fully colonized cakes won't contaminate from spores in the air until their life cycle is nearing the end.

Thanks a lot for the quick answer. It reliefs me. I was wondering if I can perform some small holes in the bags, at least while I buy the big transparent plastic boxes needed to build a SGFC. Do you think it would improve the FAE? or is like a non recommended practice? Thanks again.

It's better than nothing, but it's really not optimal for the mushrooms. Try taking the bag off a couple of times during the day and spray some water on the cakes.

Thanks a lot for answering. I've got a proper tote for making the SGFC.

Can you please answer me some more questions:
- how much light does the SGFC needs and how many hours?
- the room in which they are has a window: should I put the SGFC close to the window so it recieves more indirect light? but I'm hesitating as I readed somewhere to avoid direct air currents.

- can you please explain me this:

Quote:

does this mean they can only get contaminated later? and how could I prevent this?

- can I smoke weed in the same room that the mushrooms are growin?

- the cover of the tote has factory made holes. should I tape em or just to let them be?

12/12 cycles are ideal but normal daylight cycles are fine if you are using natural light

. Anywhere there is light is fine, closer to a window won’t make a significant difference

eventually the mycelium expires and all subs will succumb to contamination, it’s normal.

yes

fine for a SGFC

@SinysterKyd Thanks a lot for your answers.

We've built a SGFC but I'm not sure if it may be too late for some cakes. I've found a weird green looking section in the largest mushroom in one of the cakes. Here some pics.

https://ibb.co/h169MT3 (I'm sorry if its blurry)

And here is another cake with a similar green thingy in the base of the stem:

Please look the root of the stems.
are they contaminated or is normal to have colours?
would be a good idea to move them to the SGFC?

And then I may have commited a mistake of letting a cake for too long at the inoculation jar. It has many little mushrooms but in the base of the cake it had a black weird looking little section of the cake. I don't know if I made right or wrong but we took it off.

https://ibb.co/F56vchq
https://ibb.co/5v3Mpz9

Here you can see a little mushroom with a green colour in the top (in the same cake), is it normal? (sorry if its blurry)

https://ibb.co/nQHk4v8

All the cakes are separated. Only the one that we took a piece off is at the SGFC.
I'm afraid about the contamination possibility and if its happening how to avoid it to spread it?
There are still 3 more cakes at the inoculation jars.. as they show few primordials. should I move em anyway to the SGFC?
Please help me out I'm very new at this. Thanks!!

I apologize for the quality of the pics.

Looks like the shroom or myc is bruising, not a contam that I can see. Bruising can occur from handling or dehydration.

I’d say harvest, re-dunk and put them in the SGFC.

My PF experience is quite low though, others may chime in or you can definitely get quicker answers on the shroomery site in the getting started section.

May want to look at cloning to agar now that you have a viable cake, and then agar to grain jars.

Cheers! 🥳
