This is an account of my first magical moment with Ayahuascha, what lead to it, my preparation and the weekend of my watershed moment. I will mention dates and timescales here but actual places and names of persona have been changed...


PRE-CONDITIONS
(mind)Set: leading up to this I have just had one the worst years of my life,, but prior to this ceremony I had been clean and abstaining from everything not kosher for the ceremony for 30 days and feeling very hopeful and afraid.
(physical condition) Set: generally healthy, but still reeling from a decade of abuse of cocaine, alcohol, smokable heroin, plus had a bad flu during the week
Setting (location): nature reserve, flanked by majestic mountains, in a dry grassland, around a fire pit

It was around this time however that for some reason I am not sure, my self knew that I needed an intervention and I started researching Iboga.
The guy who was doing the Iboga ceremony had a very doctor approach to it, put you in a room and check up on you vibe. I was not going for that vibe. I soon plunged headlong into my ayahuascha research and became fascinated. This surely must be the way I can get the monkey of my back. I did not find her, she found me and by a series of fortunate events I found a group of people, who were doing a ceremony about 7 hours drive away from me. The date was end of the year in December, enough to get my act together. I had help of a concerned friend, who convinced me and helped me to go 30 days straight clean, no rocks, crack, heroin, cigarettes, weed ,and porn. On the last two weeks I gave up meat, and then on the last week I gave up coffee and went mostly fruit. I managed to kick the habit on my own but still I longed for Mama Aya. At this time I was reading The Ayahauscha Manifesto (please see file attached, i have uploaded the entire manifesto here, if you have not read it yet please do it is amazing). It gave me chills, literally, the week before I got very ill with a chest cold, Aya's way of cleaning me out, I'm not sure, already things were adding up in strange ways, the day of the Aya ceremony would be my 30th day clean, a feat I never managed before ...

After a long days drive, stay over at my brothers and then he dropped me of at the nature reserve where the ceremony was to begin. I did not tell anyone what I was doing, I just said it was a yoga camp. There were more than 30 of us and we all gathered around the fire. It was 6 pm, the fire was lit, the guide explained to us how we will proceed, one by one inm a clockwise direction we will approach the altar and drink the brew. This will happen every hour, until 12 when the ceremony will close. We were supposed to state an intention. When it was my turn, I walked up knelt at the altar and put the cup to my lips, I said I wanted to be free. As soon as I drank the draught I felt wobbly, Aya had started working on me almost instantaneously, I know that sounds strange, but its true. As the hour got on the way I began meditating and doing pranayama, I felt as if my head was floating away from my body. The facilitators where singing english songs with rich deep meanings. I was home, I found my tribe and I was so happy. Then it started to rain, we had to move inside this broke my trip for me and I wasnt able to get back to the same level.... We closed the ceremony for the night and went to eat soup.... little did I know the magic of Mother Aya was just beginning.....
